In a laboratory population of Drosophila, all the males are XsY. Among the females, 15% are XiXi, 50% are XiXs, and 35% are XsXs. Assuming random mating, what proportion of male flies in the next generation will be XiY?

can someone please help me with this question?

Draw a punnet square. All males from XiXi mother will have XiY genotype, so there’s 15%. Only half of males from XiXs mother will have XiY genotype, so there’s additional 25%. Finally, none of the males from XsXs mother will have the desired genotype. Thus, 15% + 25% = 40%
