I'm referring to the aamc id account you have to create so that you can register for the mcat.

Does the name on the aamc id account have to match exactly with the name you're planning on using for the amcas application?

yes the the name you put to register for the MCAT will be your account name tied to your aamc id and should match exactly with whatever identification you plan to bring (trust me I almost ran into a problem with this). however you can update your name on AMCAS and there is also a "preferred name" entry if you don't want to go by your "legal name" and prefer a nickname or completely different name. some of the applications will ask you if you have a name you "prefer" to be called as well so I wouldn't worry about this if that's the issue..
