Hello,

I have had my instituitions submit 2 transcripts to amcas and so far I have only received one verification email for one of the transcripts from amcas. My question is about the processing. What is the final step before the amcas submits the packet to the medical schools? Will I be waiting an entire month after they receive the second transcript before my packet is complete?

The reason I ask is because I would like to know when I should submit my part of the application. If I have to wait a month for the transcript to be reviewed that is an extra month that I could add in shadowing and other extracurricular and also, much needed, extra time to edit the personal statement and work/activities.

Thanks SDN

One more question, will the amcas service require additional time after I submit my application to verify volunteer hours?

I am pretty sure that AMCAS will not verify your application until ALL your listed transcripts are in. Is your status "Waiting for transcripts" right now? Once all your transcripts are received, it should change to "Ready for review" and only then will it be in line for AMCAS to verify your courses and grades. After verification, the app is released to medical schools. I don't think AMCAS verifies your activities but individual med schools may do that down the road. Submit your part of the app when you're ready and then AMCAS can process it as soon as your other transcript arrives.

Thanks that helps clarify it so they will not start reviewing until both transcripts are received, which is too bad because my second one has only one course. Anyone know how long it typically takes from the time transcripts are received for the the reviewing?

It can take a while, a week or even longer for AMCAS to officially mark transcripts as "received" when they get really busy. So your other transcript could be just sitting there already. You should have gotten a copy of all your transcripts from your schools as you need to enter that information on the AMCAS application. Submit your application as soon as possible, you can update schools later and it gives you a valid reason for contacting schools (while adding how really interested you are in their school).

This sticky has most all of the info you need for this application cycle, including how long AMCAS is currently taking for verifying applications: 2012-2013 Applicant Sticky (PS, AMCAS, Secondaries, Interviews, etc)

Good luck.

I think there is a little confusion here. You have not submitted your application yet? Them receiving your transcripts does not take time, they do not review your transcripts when you send them in other than to make sure they are official transcripts. They compare your courses you imputed to your transcript once you submit your application. This is what could take up to a month. You won't enter the queue until you submit but you can submit before they have marked your transcripts as received. If you sent the transcripts and you want to be verified ASAP then you should submit ASAP and most likely your transcripts will be there before they get to you.

Actually it does take time for them to mark your transcripts as "received", I know because it happened to me last year. There is a lag between when they land at AMCAS and when someone inputs it into the system as being received and an e-mail sent out. The busier they are, the longer it takes to get through them. It took just over a week for me. You are correct however they won't review/certify them until the primary application is submitted. Hence the need for the op to get the application submitted soon.

so to verify for the coming cycle, I can submit my transcript May 1st before submitting my primary application? I assume they'll receive it and store it somewhere till I turn in my primary app?
