I am a junior in undergrad looking to apply to Osteopathic schools for 2013. I am a little late on everything because I recently made the decision to pursue this. I have not taken physics yet, but I realize that I need it soon because I need to take the MCAT! If I take physics 1 this spring, hopefully I can take physics 2 this summer and be done by July 5, 2012. I still need time to prepare for the MCAT, so I am assuming that the earliest I would be able to take it would be August 2012. Do you think that August is too late to be taking the MCAT? Is September completely out of the question? I would really like to get my applications in as soon as possible and I am worried that taking the MCAT late would set me back and lower my chances of acceptance. Thanks!

You're not going to get many responses in this forum. Try over at the pre-osteo site.

That said, don't rush the MCAT. Focus on those pre-reqs first, then take the MCAT after you devoted solid prep time (i.e. LOTS of practice exams). Most here would say that you should devote a good 3 months of structured study time to the MCAT alone. Being that you haven't even taken physics 1 yet, and the earliest you will finish part 2 is by sometime in July, an August MCAT is probably out of the question... unless you're one of those outliers who prep for a few weeks and nail a 35 to the wall. I wouldn't count on that though.

Be patient. I took my first MCAT without much prep time and it costed me time and money. Patience would have been the better option. Anyways, ace your classes (that is really strive to grasp the concepts so you know them inside out) and map out a longterm plan. When it comes time for MCAT prep, make a schedule and stick to it. There is a dude on here by the screen name Sn2ed who is somewhat of an MCAT guru and he made a pretty dope schedule to follow. Give it a look. Best of luck.
