Hello. I'm a long time reader and first time poster, I apologize if this thread has been written already, I tried looking and haven't found anything related to this topic. I'm a sophomore at Purdue University and I'm finishing my pre-pharmacy requisites as well a minor in psychology. I was speaking to a few pharmacist friends of mine and I was told that if you go through the B.A. program of pharmacuetical sciences, you will take a lot of the courses that you would take if you were in the pharmD program, shortening the time you need to be in pharmacy school. I was really confused by all this, and I can't meet with my counselor to discuss this issue until October 24th (thats purdue for ya..). So I was wondering if anyone has heard anything like this. Thank you for your time.

I don't know about that. But if you finish Pre-reqs in 2 years then enter a PharmD program, that will shorten your course...especially if you opt for a 3 year PharmD program. 5 years for a PharmD. So some can be a 22 - 23 year old pharmD making 100K. That's awesome!

I dunno. That must be a Purdue thing. I know UCSF won't allow courses to qualify for pharmaceutical courses. You can "test out" of things like biochem, pharmaceutical chem, etc...but its not easy.

I think you're going to have to wait for you appt. & whatever the answer is, it won't necessarily be the case for every school you apply to.

Is this what you are basing your choice of undergrad degree on?

Thank you for your responses. This isn't what i'm basing my choice of degree on, it's just that purdue is a very hard school to get into. As such, I'm applying to two other pharmacy schools and looking at back-up plans if none of them pan out. I have qualifying gpa, experience and all that, but you never know for sure, so I'm doing some research on all the options that I have.
