What major should i choose if I want engineering as a back-up incase I can't get into UT pharmacy?

it says you must be enrolled in the college of natural science before applying to pharm school at UT...does that mean I have to choose a major within it and do it for two years?

As long as you do the prereqs for admission into the pharmacy school, then it doesn't really matter which major you choose. For engineering, I would imagine you need chemistry, calculus, and physics anyway, which are all courses you need for pharmacy. I don't think you would have to choose a major...but if you do then choose chemistry or whatever is sciences based. For example, a chemistry major could work for both pharmacy and engineering.

i see...which major is typically harder? physics or chemistry

Depends on you. But if your goal is to go to pharmacy school after 2 years, then you will be doing the prerequisites for your freshman and sophomore year. Therefore, it doesn't matter which major you choose, just get the classes finished.

If you want to do engineering as a back-up, you should get an engineering degree. A science major isn't going to get you a job in engineering. It would be a good idea for you to look at what courses are required for both an engineering degree and a science degree and see if they would cover the pre-reqs for pharm school. Plus, you will get an idea of the courses and see if they will interest you. Now, I suspect engineering is not in the College of Natural Sciences at UT, so it sounds like that would be a problem when applying to pharm school if you choose the engineering route. Though they would probably let you be in more than one college. Just some suggestions to look into.

You don't have to be enrolled in the college of natural sciences. You just have to finish the pre-reqs. Pick whatever major you want, or none at all.

oh really? did you major in something else and get into UT pharmacy?

this is what it says on the website...

"Admission to the College of Pharmacy is a two-step process. To be considered for admission to the College of Pharmacy, you must first be admitted to and enroll in a related major in the College of Natural Sciences."

do biomedical engineering. they have to take biology and up through organic chemistry. so if you opt not to do pharmacy, you'll have a good engineering background.

What it means is that for the semester you are applying for entrance into the College of Pharmacy, you need to have been accepted into the university as a college of natural sciences pre-pharmacy student. But you can get your degree in anything, or not get a degree at all. For instance, I know there a girl in my class with a degree in literature.

Hi,I'm thinking of going to UT, Austin. Their pharmacy school is great but what about tuition overall? I'm a senior in high school and thinking of applying to only one school. Is that a good or a bad idea?

Do you mean cost or do you mean the undergrad program? UT Austin is a great school if you mean the latter.

the undergrad and Pharmacy school.
My family wont be helping me much, that's why I have to stay instate. Still, it all depends on what I can afford, I don't want to graduate in debt and then kill myself trying to pay it all off.
