So first up, I am an IMG from a carribean school. The Token comes out July 1, and we are allowed to work on our applications. They cannot be submitted until September 15. My question is, if I take the CK exam (already took CS) august 23, I would get it back around Sept 11. Thus, it would be perfect timing. My only question is, what exactly does it mean to be ECFMG certified and would it be better for me to take the take July 30 instead?

Please advise!

Thanks

Not trying to sound like a jerk but I recommend looking into the entire process and learning the definitions that you should have already learned by now. This is coming from a fellow IMG.

ECFMG certification is the paper that says you are absolutely eligible to participate in any PGY-1 residency position. This is a requirement that you must have prior to day 1 of residency. To get ECFMG certification you must:

Pass step 1
Pass Step 2 CK & CS
Graduate

However you do not need ECFMG certification to match, you just need to be ECFMG "Verified" by match day, which means that you've passed those steps listed above by match day. Then upon graduation (usually after match day) you will send your medical diploma to the ECFMG and they will "Certify" you with a certificate.

Also if you take it august 23rd your score will not come in until the 18th. At best it's 3 wednesdays from the wed after you take it. So you're better off giving yourself extra cushion room anyway if you're trying to have ck score uploaded to eras by sept 15th

This confused me, how does someone go the Caribbean route and have no clue about this stuff?

How could someone from those programs not have any upperclassmen or friends to ask about this stuff? The entire 4 year focus is to re-enter the US system. Seems odd...

More importantly how the hell do you spell CARIBBEAN wrong?
