On the OU application it asks for for non-residents to "indicate and document close ties to the state". I have attended college and lived in Oklahoma for the past five years and that is how I answered the question....

Is there anything else I should say?

What does it mean document? It is only a text box so its not like I could upload anything. So what should I do for documentation?

Thanks...

OK, kind of a bump kind of some new info. So I attended college in Oklahoma, I have that in the close ties section. Other stuff I have considered adding, currently considering employment opportunities in Tulsa, Ok (maybe add that), enjoyed living in Oklahoma and would like to continue to live and work there during and after med school (if anything will add this). So should I add something? I know it seems like a stretch, Just trying to get the best shot at getting in here as it is my #1 choice.

i'm bumping this because i'm in the same boat as you as far as not knowing how to fulfill their requested documentation. i live in oregon, but my tribe is located in oklahoma, and since i want to do work with them i figure that counts as "ties" to the state. however, i don't know if i should obtain some type of letter of verification from the tribe.

Call or e-mail the admissions office and ask if you can attach a separate sheet. In that page, you can describe, in detail, the school you attended, dates attended, current employer, dates of employment, etc. I would NOT limit yourself to the 1 or 2 lines provided for such a matter. Ask the admissions office so you can make it very clear you are not just "another" OOS applicant.

Employment, close family in the state, own property in the state, have voted in the state, have a drivers license/vehicle registration in the state, have a significant other in the state, have had a child in the state...

Those are all I could think of off the top of my head. I guess I don't know your exact situation but potentially any of those might help.

thanks for the advice. 🙂

I wonder if having relatives such as aunt, uncle, cousins, and grandparents living in Oklahoma qualifies as "close ties" to the state. Any ideas?

You've got one up on me... my response would have to be, "I've seen the musical. O. K. L. A. H. O. M. A., Oklahoma, O.K.!"
