Question about Duke.

Can anyone tell me their most recent thoughts on Duke's program? I know in the past it has had the reputation of being malignant, is that still the case? Is it otherwise a pretty solid program? Thanks.

If you haven't already, I would look in the Interview Impressions thread as there are several posts about Duke. I think the overall impression is that they've tossed aside their malignant reputation and are becoming a much better regarded program overall. Also they still have (IIRC) a solid hyperthermia program.

All of the PDs I have talked to agree that Duke is an excellent program. They have great opportunities in all areas of research, a very much improved and top notch physics program, and the faculty are well respected in the field. Duke may of had a malignant reputation ten years ago but I have heard nothing but great things about the program. I would suggest interviewing there and make up your own mind about it.
