So I'm going to apply to pharmacy school soon. I was thinking of becoming a tech but I don't have the time to do so because I'm taking a lot of upper division courses.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone know whether pharm schools look at the science gpa or the pharm pre-req gpa (if something like that exists)....

Also, for volunteer work, I have a good amount of volunteer work at a hospital (almost a year now) and lots of other volunteer work (mentoring, special events which i strongly support, etc.), will it be necessary to do volunteer work in a pharmacy? I was thinking of just shadowing some pharmacists......and if I do need to get volunteer work in a pharmacy, how do I go about doing so? When I first started volunteering, I asked about pharmacy work but they wouldn't allow me to do so, so I don't really know where to start...

Thanks for your help!

first. about getting the pharm tech license it doesn't take that much time. people pass the exam with studying only for like 10 days. u need to know simple math, like converting ml-L or calculating number of tablets from given information and know the rules like difference between retail and hospital pharmacy.
the test also includes few drugs names but not that much. as long as u can do good in math portion and rules portion u can pass it.
second about pharmacy schoools, they look at both gpas. pre pharm classes and other.
third if u are doing volunteering, thats good that u are doing it at hospital and other stuff. but it would be better if u do something in pharmacy as well. that will show pharmacy schools that you know at least something about pharmacy. the way it works at my univeristy is that they give out pharmacy, medical, dental internships thru a lottery system either u get it or u don't. so try to ask around if nothing like that exist at ur school and see if u can shadow a pharmacist. Besides you going to need a letter from pharmacist when you apply to pharmacy school and for a pharmacist to write something good about you , you will have to work with them.
hope this helps

so about the pharmacist writing a letter for you, is that required or is it just to make you more competitive? I looked at the admission requirements for the school I want and all it says is 3 letters, and at least 1 from a science faculty. Is it different because I go to a college which has great emphasis on research?
