Question about interview scheduling

This question pertains to next years cycle. Currently, I have accepted a great job offer that will afford me three and four day weekends. This will allow me to schedule interviews during those times ( granted those are available at said interviewing school and I actually get an invite). My question pertains to a possible additional job offer that may pay better but be a traditional five day work week. How soon in advance do they offer interview invites in relation to the interview date? Also, do they have interview days during the weekend? I will be able to take a vacation but traditionally in my experience, you need to request it a month out.

AFAIK most schools don't do weekend interview days.

I got some interview offers where I could pick a date to schedule a month or two out, and others where I got a phone call one day that said "we have a spot open next Wednesday if you want it."

I think the only one i saw that did weekends was Harvard who had interviews on Saturdays

One school let me schedule like 4 months ahead.
Three schools was 2-3 months max
One school was less than 30 days....

Take the job that’s best for you. Schedule vacation time etc on your interview dates... if something comes up like Harvard calling you and asking you to show up within 48 hours then you call out sick...

Do your best to be a good employee but you have to look out for your future.

Traditionally you’ll get at least 4-6 weeks advanced notice. Being that you’re not guaranteed to get an interview, let alone many, I wouldn’t pick my job based on this. Also, in my experience, most people are helpful in helping you get time off for an interview.

I’ll be in the same situation next year, so I’m planning on letting my manager know in advance if possible. Worst case scenario is that I’ll call in sick if a school gives me a few days notice, especially if it’s a school that is high on my list.

In my experience, it is not a good idea to let everyone know. You would be shocked.
Just inform them that you are requesting some personal days near xyz date or whatever. Personal time requested in advanced doesn’t need to be explained and they will/ should know not to ask...
If someone asks just say “it’s personal”

Agreed. The less they know, the better.

Thanks everyone. Yea, I'm not letting my employers know. It would jeopardize me getting hired. I'll choose the best job for me and worry about interviewing latter.
