I'm currently a BIO major and lately i been reading/hearing that it isn't a major to really be in if you plan to go to med school. Chemistry, engineering, and surprisingly English have been top majors. I know major doesnt really matter but bio is a very popular major that doesnt stand out anymore. I can be misinformed about this so please dont bash on me XD. I love philosophy and i been considering to study something im going to enjoy since i "hope" to be a doctor at the end of the road. Would this be a bad idea cuz chemistry just isnt appealing to me so i cant see myself doing or engineering. Sorry for the long post btw

It really doesn't matter. Yes, bio is a bit generic, but it certainly won't be held against you at all. If you like it and think you can do well then that is what is most important. Philosophy is fine too. Basically whichever one appeals to you the most.

The only statistics I've seen on this issue seem to indicate that non-science majors, proportionally, get accepted to med school more often than science majors. Philosophy is actually one of the most accepted majors. So no, choosing a non-science major won't hurt you in the least as long as you get your pre-reqs and recommended courses along the way.

Firstly, you should be in college doing what you enjoy. Do not choose something because people told you to or because that is what you heard.

Now, since you love philosophy, you should major in it.
If you major in something you enjoy you will put more effort into the classes. Which should correlate to a higher GPA. [You will still be required to do Gen Chem and Ochem, a year each, even if you choose to major in something else as it is a requirement for med school.]

PS: I know that students that major in a non-science major (humanities) often find the verbal reasoning section of the MCAT easier because of their extensive reading in the humanities.

Good luck 🙂

i really appreciate your ninja fast responses!!
btw i appreciate the link. i truly think ima just do philosophy and enjoy it and kick ***** in it too since it prolly wont be difficult. I guess i was more inclined to do a science major because one doctor i know at a personal level told me science or nothing pretty much.

Is this doctor older? The admissions process has really changed a lot and a lot of older doctors don't understand this. I have even had older doctors ask me why I would be volunteering (which is really necessary).

This is a pretty good place to get info, in fact the best I have found.
