Question about NYU's curriculum requirements

NYU School of Medicine says they require 6 semester hours of English. Now I am not too versed in the term "semester-hours"...but I do know what credits are.

So far I have taken one English class worth 3 credits. I am currently taking another English class worth 3 credits...so, I should have 6 credits, (or 6 semester hours?) of English at the end of this semester.

Am I right?

Also, just throwing this out there. Philosophy wouldn't count as an English course, correct? I know, a silly question.

You are correct, semester hours= credit hours (some schools have quarters, hence the goofy wording).

I wouldn't call philosophy and english class unless it was through the english department.
