question about outstanding pre reqs?

So I have a quick question regarding how having outstanding (or in other words "late) pre reqs work. Due to scheduling conflicts with my job and time constraints I cant take all the classes I wanted to take this summer. That being said that means I would have to take a couple of classes in fall and one pre req (specifcally phys 2) in spring of next year. If i applied to programs and all I had left by springtime is phy 2 would that be ok?

Generally yes, but check with individual schools how many outstanding prereqs they allow at time of application.

I'm finishing up A&P 2 right now.

It depends. That would be ok for lots of schools, but some have specific requirements. Like U of Utah says that everything has to be done before you apply, so I couldn't apply there. Other schools say you can have two pre-reqs in session during spring. I was sent a contract from my program that says before I can matriculate in the fall I have to get a B in the two outstanding classes I have. Most every schools website will line it out for you. If its unclear, call. A lot of people here recommended that I make a spreadsheet with the schools I had picked out and what their requirements are. That was helpful for me to narrow down which schools were feasible in my time frame and which classes were going to fulfill the most schools requirements.

What specific classes are you taking in the fall? When do you plan to apply? One of the biggest misunderstandings students seem to have on here is what schools can see with regards to fall classes. If you apply in July, even if schools don't start looking at applications until November, those fall classes are still incomplete (and aren't verified as in progress). If you apply to a school who considers applications starting in January, then you can use the December academic update to update your fall classes.

I think you will get better answers if you list the exact course plan here.

One more consideration....if you have a low GPA, you absolutely need to have as many of the pre reqs done as possible. Don't let the school "guess" that you will get low grades in those too. If you have straight As, then I think it's fine to have pre reqs outstanding in accordance with school guidelines.

Like others said, check each school's specific requirements to see where you can apply. Some schools will want all pre-reqs done before you apply, but most are okay with you having 2-3 (or more) left to complete before you start. But in general, you're fine. I am finishing two classes this semester and one more this summer, then starting PT school in the fall. Schools are happy to answer questions for you about their requirements, so don't hesitate to email them directly if you have questions.

Well for me I would be taking Chem 2 Bio 2 and Physics 1 in Fall. Physics 2 would be my last pre req for the Spring 2017 semester. My overall GPA is pretty low so I would def need these pre reqs to have any realistic shot. That's part of the main reason as to me being a little confused as to when I should apply. Should I apply and then just academically update those classes or should I wait until those classes are complete (at least the fall portion)

Most deadlines are such that you will have to either wait another year or use the academic update. You can't just wait till after fall semester. Compare your GPA to other people who got accepted/rejected from the schools you want to go to and research what the requirements are. If it really seems like the extra year will make a difference than wait till all of your classes are done. None of us really know all of the specifics of your situation or the schools you want to apply to so its not something we can really answer for you.

So....understand if you apply in the summery, you will have 4 outstanding pre reqs.

1) Make sure any schools you are looking at actually allows 4 outstanding pre reqs. This may be an automatic disqualifier on many schools for you to apply this cycle.
2) Your GPA must meet minimum requirements at time of application (summer). The only exception is if you apply to a school with a much later application cycle who waits until after December academic update to start reviewing applications.
3) If you need those pre reqs to make a real shot, you can either go crazy this summer and just get them done (ask me more about this if you have questions....i went nuts and double enrolled in 2 community colleges to pull it off...and it worked) or plan to wait another year to apply.
4) You could target the very late application cycle schools. I know there are a few who don't make decisions until March....but you have to dig.

Your option #4 seems to be my most realistic option. I tried to stack the classes but that did not work out due to my work situation. Im more than likely going to apply for those really late admission dates and hope for the best.
