I'm retaking physics and I heard the professor this time is 1000X worse than the last one I had and is the only one who's teaching it 🙁. Thing is I'm sort of thinking of changing my major now because I can't afford to get a low grade again and mainly because of physics. Anyone have any advice on how to do well in a physics class? I'm freakin out now. My other grades are fabulous except this one and I don't want to risk getting another low grade again (I passed though). It's only this class that's ruining my chances for admission 🙁. Otherwise I would have been fine.

Private tutoring? That is really the best option I believe. Make sure you talk to your (most successful) classmates.

Ugh, physics. 😡 Can't stand nor understand the subject, and my grade reflected that, haha.

Do you really, really have to retake the class? If there is a good chance that you will not be able to get a better grade, or worse, you get a lower grade than you got previously, it wouldn't be worth it to take it over again. I learned the hard way with regards to another class. Thus, I am not retaking physics, even though my grade is abysmal. At least I passed.

If you MUST retake it, then what about waiting another semester, until an easier prof comes along? Or taking it at a CC, assuming you're not there right now?

Studying every night, tutoring every week, professor's office hours, google searches for question answers, etc...

You can drop the class and take it next time with a different professor, unless this is your last semester/quarter?

I gotta ask some questions to understand where you struggling in Physics because I found it quite easy.

Are you guys allowed to use formula sheets on the exams? Are the exams more math-based or more conceptual based? Is it calculus-based physics?

I just got back from Physics so I can now answer them. I also found a huge difference between the one I am taking now and the one I took last semester.

Formula sheets?: Yes we are allowed formula sheets. For this class we are allowed to make our own formula sheets to make it easier for us. Previous, we were given a formula sheet from the professor, but it was too simple as well as complicated to understand..and we were expected to derive them..which was impossible according to his standards.

math/conceptual-based?: In the previous class, it was heavily math based and barely conceptual. I'm not sure about this class, but I think it's math-based also.

Calculus-based physics?: In this class the professor said it is calculus-based. In the previous class, we never did anything involving calculus..don't know why.

Still I'm not sure about this guy. Anyone in the Long Island area heard of or know Mr. Ardebili?? I really want to know some background of his. He's my professor now. Nice guy, but I think he's going to be a killer according to some people :help:

Oh yes, I really have to. No choice for me..and I can't stay another semester🙁. I'm def going to study every night and tutor as much. I HATE PHYSICS!!!! It's complete torture...help!!! This is the only subject that's harming my academic statistics...😡. I'm doing great in everything else...

Haha, I'm on the same boat as you. I'm actually taking it right now and it is by far my worst/hated subject. I wish physics can burn in the depths of hell!

I agree with GlamDoc. If you feel that you will not likely improve your grade, I would drop the class. It would probably look worse if you repeated the class and made the same or worse grade than the 1st time. If you have a high PCAT score and your Math/Science sections are strong they may be willing to overlook a lower grade for just one class. On the other hand, if your PCAT score is borderline, you might consider retaking the PCAT if you are not accepted this year. Increasing community involvement might also help to balance out any deficit in your GPA. Just a few suggestions.

If I remember correctly you got a D in Physics, correct? In that case you have to retake it or you won't get into pharmacy school. I spent more time on Physics than I did ochem or microbiology and I ended up with a C in Physics and B's in organic and micro. You're just going to have to struggle through it... no way around it.

I ended up having to teach myself that course. You can do it with practice and maybe office hours/tutoring from professors

In most cases you can choose which you want to take. My school has Physics 101-103 which is algebra based, 201-203 which is calculus based. The latter is generally required for engineering majors.

Oh good. I have algebra based covered. Still couldn't get into Calculus MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. I guess I will have to take some extra maths in college. 🙁
