Here's my situation. I received 3 English credits from my undergrad based on my English AP exam, which are reflected on my transcript, and 4 credits from an English taken from my undergrad. Those are my only "English" credits, though I have plenty of writing intensive coursework from other departments. I'm a TX resident with a 3.90 GPA from a T20 undergrad, haven't taken the MCAT and have just started the first of 2 gap years. I'm currently preparing for the MCAT and volunteering and plan to take the MCAT in Jan 2019.
Questions:
1. Do med schools typically screen for English prerequisites prior to granting interviews, specifically schools like Columbia, Cornell, Boston U, which have stringent English requirements?
2. Do I need to worry about this at this time given that I am a TX resident and my MCAT score might not be enough to warrant consideration by out of state medical schools?
3. Would med school admissions look down upon my taking another English course at a local community college or some other substantially less "prestigious" university?
4. Would having a single class from another college complicate my application?
Any insight and wisdom would be appreciated.
