So I recently finished my PTcas essay prompt and ran it through a plagiarism check and it gave me back a score of 0 but it also gave me a score of 70% chance of AI. I never used AI in any of my essays, so I pasted my essay into several AI checkers and they all gave me different scores such as 0, 40, and 70%. Now I'm nervous that my application will get disqualified. Do I rewrite my essay again even though I believe it sounds strong? Do admissions use AI checkers?

AI checkers return a high rate of false positives, so adcoms are unlikely to rely on it solely to determine authenticity of an essay. An unofficial survey of medical school admissions leaders show that most schools have not developed policies or procedures addressing AI usage in the application process, although AMCAS reversed its stance from "no AI" to "AI is allowable" this cycle (which has caused more confusion).

In general, the best advice is to make sure the essays you write represent you. No matter how much help you have used to edit your essays (including spellcheck and grammar), make sure you embrace the voice and tone your essays portray.

HPSA/SDN will be conducting a pulse survey soon to capture sentiments about AI among current students and applicants, and we would love to have as many diverse voices (including non-medicals) included.

I had several clients who were in the same situation during the last cycle. To my knowledge, none of them had issues because like Mr. Smile said, there are a lot of false positives. As long as you know you wrote the essay, try not to worry about it.
