Question about Update

Hey all,

Hope the cycle is going well for you all (Silence + 1R for me). I recently attended a conference for an organization I'm going to start volunteering for and will be volunteering a lot of my time to it. I also found out I will be included as an author for a paper my PI is submitting soon. I don't when or where it will be submitted. Is this substantial enough for me to update schools about? In regards to the paper should I first find out the title and journal that the paper is being sent to before I update?

I would wait until you have more details about the paper so that an admissions committee could find the published version. It's still early OP you have plenty of time for updates; when you do send it, I would make the publishment the meat of your letter, with the volunteer component as a more brief accessory.

1) Wait until you've been involved in active volunteering for awhile first.

2) Reporting a submitted manuscript is not going to help you. Some are sent to multiple journals before they are accepted. Some never are, or require substantial modifications first. With until you have a letter of acceptance in hand. That is worth updating about.
