On my transcript, it shows that I have credit for the 2-semester general writing/english class that my university requires all students take and this credit counts toward graduation. However, I was not awarded credit for taking the AP english exam, but for scoring high enough on my SAT writing section. This credit via my SAT score appears exactly the same on my transcript as my other AP credit. Does anybody know if this be acceptable to med schools who accept AP credit for the english prerequisite?

You'll have to use the MSAR and program webpages. Most schools don't accept AP credit for prereqs. Some do, especially for english. To be able to apply as broadly as possible, you will need to take the english classes as an undergraduate.
