Question for someone who has done the C4 course...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
At what level of knowledge is the Combat Casualty Care Course? Would an MS2 be able to keep up with the material or do you need a firmer clinical background?

You'd live. Sticky at top of page.

Having done ATLS would be helpful. Most of the course when I took it was about leadership and organization skills. The triage and ATLS was just the backdrop to that.

Do they still do rappelling? I saw a few photos of tower rappelling in C4 on a slideshow and found that a bit odd...

They still did rappelling when I went in 2006. They also did teambuilding exercises where they shoot at you with paintballs! C4 was alot of fun and they were in the process of improving their simulator events with life-like simulators that bleed for line and procedures in the combat environment.

They taught us ATLS during C4 so I am not sure why you would need it before hand.

Have Fun.

Thanks for the input, all. Not sure if they will allow me to go, but it seemed like a relatively interesting way to spend a week if I can get the ATLS certification out of it. Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be in over my head before I start asking about it...

Sorry, my mistake, I'd forgotten that ...

I did "Bushmaster" through USUHS, which is equivalent to C4, except we did our ATLS class before going to Texas for the field portion.

That was my fraternity nickname.

You could probably get through ATLS. They teach you the stuff you need to know. I went in 2007 and I don't remember doing any rappelling...

This provides a nice break during internship and they aren't going to let you go twice. Any reason for the hurry?
DeadCactus is National Guard. C4 time is either medical school vacation/elective time or it's trying to get the time off from a civilian internship program. The latter might be a challenge.

DC- Did your chain of command give you a thumbs up on this course? I'm thinking of approaching mine but am curious about funding issues...

I sent them an e-mail with a barrage of different questions pretty recently. Giving it a few more days and then I'm going to check back in on the previous questions and inquire about C4. I'll update this thread when I get an answer.
