Hey guys,

I am a 2nd year pre-dent at Stony Brook. I have a few questions to ask everyone. Firstly, (this question is targeted to the SB students) What is BIO 203 considered, in regards to dental school? Is it Anatomy and Physiology? Or what? I am trying to take the DAT next summer and apply to schools that only require the basic prereqs (gen chem, orgo, physics, bio, eng, math). My advisor has said to take BIO 203 because it is required by dental schools. I'm a little lost on that. Next question, (this is targeted to whoever is reading) Would it make sense for me to do the basic prereqs, apply to schools that only require those and in the meanwhile finish my degree and wait for responses. Thanks guys for reading.

Take care,
Farhad

Bio 203 is one of the core science classes, specifically, physiology. You should take BIO 201 BIo 202 and 203. It doesnt really matter what order. Take these with BIO 204 and 205, and then you are good for the biology prereqs. Stony offers separate anatomy course ANP 300, which is recommended but not required.

You should take your science prereqs before you take your dat. Are you going into you second or third year?

Thank you B0wMNj for your help on this subject. So you are saying that I should complete all the prereqs, correct? I will be done with gen chem, orgo, physics, bio, math and eng by next summer when I plan to take the DAT. Is this okay? I was trying to ask before was that does this make sense in regards to applying to dental schools. The year after, I would apply again if I dont get in. I will take biochem and few other upper sciences after my first application cycle.

I am going into my third year.

Thanks,
Farhad

Complete all prereqs before DAT that are tested on it (bio, chem and ochem) The other prereqs like physics and english, you can take even after you submit your application, you just have to have it before you matriculate to dental school, but try to have most done by your junior year. Applying after junior year, as you are saying, is what most people do, so you are good.
You can taek biochem and other classes in senior year if you want to.

You wont have to apply again... youre from Stony Brook. 😉

Hey B0wMNj,

thats great! I have heard from cousins going into med school, that they have to have all their sciences before they apply. I figured it was the same with dental school. Thats really good though so at least I dont have to rush with all the science reqs before I apply.

thanks alot for your help. I really appreciate your advice and reassurance that you've given me.

"You wont have to apply again... youre from Stony Brook. 😉" (hopefully!)

Thanks alot B0wMNj, Take care!
