I submitted my secondary to a school that required 2 LORs but had room for optional ones. I have 2 LORs from science profs, so i submitted one in the optional category and one for the required ones along with another prof for the required and a work LOR with the optional.
I got an e-mail the other day from this med school saying my letters were recieved, but the science LOR i designated as the required one wouldn't work b/c the prof didn't put it on letterhead. so the school switched it to an optional letter and put my other science letter in the required category.
Here's the question - do I just ask the school to drop that letter completely or do I go back to the prof and ask him to re-do it and resubmit it to amcas and all that nonsense. He was fine when I asked him to write the letter, but he was the only prof who wanted to be sure that I had waived my rights before he would submit it to AMCAS which makes me a little worried. Will it seem sketchy if I ask the Medical school to drop it?

Sorry this was such a rambling post, but i don't know what to do.
Thanks.

Ask the prof to resubmit the letter on official letterhead. I'm sure the prof has a copy somewhere that he could reproduce.

I'm a little confused. Did you complete the schools requirement of 2 LOR's? Do they both need to be science? If you have then I would just leave it as is. If you do need another science letter then I don't think you have any other options but to ask the prof to indicate that in his letter.

As an aside, just because the writer asked you to make sure it was confidential doesn't mean that he would be put off if he had to add something to the letterhead. But I hope you asked that prof if he was willing to write you a "good" letter of recommendation.

sorry i wrote that in kind of a panicked rush. only one needs to be science. i just don't want the school to think i'm sketchy by not using his letter.

They already have the letter and read it. No point in asking them to drop it.

I would agree with this. Plus, if you ask them to drop a letter that might raise some eyebrows or just annoy them, either way it's a lose lose if you ask them to drop it now.

Just verify that you are good to go at your other schools now. If you do need that other letter to be resent as a science letter it might be better for you to do that preemptively rather than waiting for another email telling you that you're short a letter.
