Can a D.O. be a specialist like a M.D. such as radiologist, Anesthesiologist, etc? Or D.O. only specialize in family practice, general internal medicine, and pediatrics, surgery, etc? Thanks

They can do anything mds can do. In certain regions you can even find more DO's than MD's in specialist positions. Ex. My hometown where 3 of the 4 practicing radiologist were DO's, half of the anes. guys were, and pretty much every ER doc, cardiologist, pulmonologist, gastro was a DO. Be prepared...you are going to get yelled at for not using the search function in a second.

Aren't DOs spine doctors? My grandma told me DOs can only use OMT, herbs and magical spells to treat the sick.

At the most recent surgery I attended as a med student in the most oversaturated medical mecca in the country, Boston, I glanced at the nametag of the anesthesiologist.

It said:
D.O. Anesthesiology.

DO's are not allowed anywhere near the spine b/c they would run the risk of snapping it in half and killing the patient. Magic spells, however, are taught on the first day of DO class and are the basis of the entire practice.
