wheelers says that:
maxillary primary 1st molar resembles permanent 1st premolar.
and
mand primary 1st molar does not resemble any other tooth.

but kaplan tooth morpho notes say that:
1.maxillary 1st priamry molar most resembles premolar.

then it contradicts itself and says

2.mandibular first and maxillary first primary molars resemble nothing in permanent dentition.

which statement is correct???
plz explain.

I think it depends on how literally you interpret the phrase "does not resemble any other tooth." The primary maxillary 1st molar has a crown that looks like a premolar and roots that look like a molar. So it does have characteristics of two other teeth. While the mandibular 1st molar looks like nothing at all. At least that is how I understood it.

I am actually a 1st year rite now at BU dental...as i write this..i m studying for my dental anatomy exam which is next friday!...
I just spoke with lots of second years that just got done taking their boards and that was one of the mistakes they told me about from kaplan books...

primary mand 1st molar DOES NOT resemble any tooth..has the most unique morphology in primary dentition and does not resemble any tooth in permanent dentition!

and

Primary max 1st molar RESEMBLES permanent maxillary premolar!!...

hope this helps!
gluck!
