Hey guys, i was wondering if pharmacy schools are going to average out all the gpa for the repeated courses and stuff. Does averaging the gpas benefit us in any way cuz u know how college doesnt average out our gpa. are there any of u guys out there who have your gpa boosted up or lowered by several points after pharmcas has recalculated the gpas using their own system?

second question..if there are D's and F's shown on your transcripts, and you have shown them tat u can do better by repeating the classes and stuff and got an A, for example, do they look at your academic profile in a different way.. cuz i was afraid tat even if i have shown them my improvement, they still look at those failing grades as a bad thing.

Each school is different. Contact the ones to which you'd like to apply to find out their specifics.

Again, this varies. Improvement is always a positive aspect to any application. Some schools will even disregard classes older than 5 years as long as you have retaken them and have completed your prereqs within the past 5 years.

Second the previous post, most schools have their own way of dealing with courses that are taken multiple times, just have to read what their policies are.

For schools that you apply through with PharmCAS, you will have to fill out EACH and every one of your classes, even though you may have taken it a second time with a stellar grade.

For many schools, keep in mind that the essay portion usually gives you a section where you can explain some discrepancies for your actual ability vs. what grade you got in the class. If you were working 40 hours/week and taking 20 units, for example, it would suffice it to say that you may have rec'd a grade that was not a clear reflection on what you were able to do, but got that grade just because you were trying to pay your own way through school, for example. So don't worry. 🙂

Apteka is right. When I was applying to pharmacy school, I had to list each and every one of my classes. It stated in the directions that all classes had to be listed, even if you retook it. But I think that if you had a couple of D's and F's, but retook it to get an A, then it shouldn't hurt you too much. My friend's brother got into Columbia Dental School even though he had a couple F's. I guess they noted his improvememt. Just be sure to not get a lot of them. Don't worry. 🙂

Calc 2 & 3 is not an UF prereq. Do I still need to list them in Pharmcas? I got C's in both so I would obviously prefer not to, if I have a choice.

This is sort of off topic, but for applications it pays to be thorough. I had to list a school on PharmCAS and on supplementary apps where I took a class but I withdrew from, so I didn't earn a grade. I also had to send a transcript from the school that only had a W on it. *shrug* I made sure to ask all the schools I was applying to make sure it was necessary, and they said to include all schools and classes attended, whether you earned a grade or not.

Well put- and I think that's so true. Part of this application process seemed like a test in and of itself to see if you knew how to follow directions. Esp. with this PharmCAS system, it makes it easier for the admissions staff to plow through our grades, but it definitely seems they want *us* to be very very thorough. Of course I had a hard time rationalizing why they needed to know that I got a 'Pass' grade in Water Aerobics for 0.5 units...
