Hi everyone,

Literally just registered here, so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong spot or anything..

3rd year Biochemistry major. Taking 16 hours next semester, maybe 19. Here's my schedule so far:

Biochemistry 2 - 3 hrs
Vertebrate Systems Physiology - 3 hrs
General Physics 2 (E&M) - 3 hrs
Physics 2 lab - 1 hr
Arabic 2 - 6 HOURS
Research methods/ UG research class - 3 hrs (possibly)

As you can probably guess..I'm wondering about arabic. Is it worth it? It makes up almost half of my credit hours, and I am also taking arabic 1 for 6 hours this semester.

As far as I know, I've taken all of my med school requirements. Also, if it means anything, I plan to take my MCAT in January.

If you need to know anything else, or have any suggestions in general, please feel free to share.

Thanks!

What is your research class? Is it a course where you read/present professional papers or is it course credit for independent research?

In any event biochem+physio+physics could easily fill up your schedule by itself. I suggest sticking to these three (with physics lab) and throwing in a blow-off course. Are you already fluent in Arabic (read: you are taking Arabic as your blow-off)? If so, your schedule looks good if you get rid of the research course.

For what it's worth I tried to take a similar schedule during my junior year (physio, biochem, anatomy, genetics, MCAT and 20 hrs/wk research) and I ended up with a 3.3 for the semester (compared to my average 3.7+). Just something to think about.

Do you have to have Arabic, such as to fulfill a language requirement? If yes, can you push it to a later semester, or do you have too many other major/gen ed requirements to do that? Personally, I would drop Arabic and do the research if it is possible to either bump back or eliminate completely. If you have to take Arabic this semester, you don't want your grades to take a hit, so I would drop physiology and keep the others (since Biochem is helpful on the MCAT and required by some schools)
