Question to those whose GPA was the main problem factor

1. What did you do to improve between cycles i.e. focus mainly on bringing the GPA up while continuing to do other activities? By how much did you bring it up?

Reason I'm asking this is because I'm in a rather delicate situation (story here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=999343, stats here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=998439) and in the event of being a reapplicant, I'd like to know whether it is enough to hunker down and focus on taking at least 5 courses by the next cycle.

Bring up your GPA, but don't take soo many science classes because you have to get As in all of them. Keep up with clinical and the like. Definitely get As in everything you take though.

In my gap year I did research. My second gap year I'm doing AmeriCorps. Third gap year I will probably be doing AmeriCorps again.
