i'm seeing a lot of information in this forum regarding medical schools in the UK and the resulting difficulties of obtaining employment there. i am curious: what about those who get their MD in the US and then want to practice in the UK? [as far as potentially gaining employment] is that completely out of the question? i ask because my interest is international health, particularly in rural areas.

I really don't know too much about the subject. Your interest in rural areas would help. Basically as I understand it, the main barrier to practicing in the UK is our non-EU status. Basically, they have to accept EU applications first, and only if they can prove that there isn't as qualified an EU applicant in that area as the non-EU applicant, can they hire non-EU. That's the basis behind it and I don't really know the demographics of applications, or who you could talk to specifically about international health / rural health
