Hi all,

I've been reading all your posts from time to time, and believe me I've learned a lot. Thanks for all the insights. I'm applying this summer and since most of you are already dental students, I thought it'd be more helpful posting my thread here in the "dental" forum. I'm having a hard time choosing a good combination of schools to apply to. I wanna go into GP, and wanted to know which schools offer good clinical exposure. Please post your two cents.. would really appreciate it. Thanks

Good luck to you all. 😛

Strong clinical orientated private schools include, but limit to:

Temple University
UOP
Nova
NYU
UDMercy
Tufts

Of the schools I checked out the ones with strong clinical were Case Western Reserve and Virginia Commonweath University. I choose VCU because of the strong clinical program and also the low stress atmosphere. Richmond is also a great place for a family (I have 4 kids), I was even able to buy a house while in school. VCU is doing all they can to give us more clinical experience, for example, we are taking NB part 1 this summer as freshmen so we can get into the clinic faster. Hope this helps.

Case is very good in clinical training. D1 go to local school districts to do sealants, cleaning, etc....D2 also have lots of clinical exposure. Case does everything to serve their students. And they have good patient pool too. Right in Cleveland.....

I just don't like living in Cleveland. Too cold for me, and the prospect of walking on snow is not so appealing. (Never take my words for real though) I'm a Californian, never waking up in the snow, so my take is different.

Maryland is supposed to be an awsome clincical school, Better than Temple from what Ive heard. and they have a brand new 600,000 sq ft building being built.

Your right about Cleveland, great school but I was not happy visiting it. The city had a weird vibe to it. Temple sounds like a great school but I was told by everyone I know who ever when to Philli not to even interview. My brother lived right next to the school for two years (guess what he was doing for two years?!?) and he said that it is a pit. Also a friend of mine visited the Poditery (spelling?) school there and he and his wife left early and spent the night at the airport rather than over by the school. Luckely he got in elsewhere because he was not even going to go if he had to goto Temple. Also, Temple dental students take the boards at VCU and they have to fly down with all their equipement and they have to fly their patients down. That would SUCK!!! Anyway, maybe a Temple person has a diffrent take but me ,with a family, and the having to travel for the boards it was not a good option.

true temple is in the ghetto...but there are housing options that are in really nice areas. I go jogging everyday in fairmont park...it's beautiful. as for the boards being in virginia, i assume you're talking about the western boards and yeah...most people just drive down to virginia. I heard that they are trying to get the boards to be held here at temple within the next couple years so that should be nice. Also temple is participating this year in a pilot program along with a couple other schools for the NERBS where the licensure exam is integrated into the curriculum for 4th years....so that you can have a license and start practicing right away after graduation. So temple isn't all that bad... although snow in april still has this californian longing for the west coast beaches and women hehehehe ...😎
