Hi, everyone. As college is about to start in September, I am getting very nervous about my timetable schedule. I am taking four courses, all sciences from the following: Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Since English is not my strong subject, I will enroll in it at a subsequent year of my BSc program. My question is, does this seem like a hectic and rigorous schedule for first year of university? Has anyone had a similar timetable like mine and still managed to do fine and get into dental school? Is it wise and easier to take just 3 science courses plus two "easy" electives? What were your guys' course load like in first year of university?

Thanks for reading. 🙂

I think you should wait until sophmore year to take physics and take an easier course to balance out math, chem and bio. You don't really want to put too much stress on yourself during the first year of college, when you're still learning about college life.

I did something similar my first year and by mid-year two, I needed a serious break...so much that I changed majors. I did well in all my classes, but it caught up with me. I am of the opinion that a well-rounded dental school applicant is well-rounded all the way through...I wish I had done that in the beginning. You have to take elective courses at some point, anyway. Just because you're cabable doesn't necessarily mean you should do it. But whatever floats your boat! Some of us are gluttons for punishment...

Hello there. I was a bit nervous too. My first quarter of college, I took: Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, and C++ Programming (I was a biomedical engineer). However, if you put in the time and really devote yourself, you WILL come out ahead! Also, I continued to take this type of courseload every single quarter after that up until I graduated a few weeks ago (including 4 summer school sessions). It's tough at times, and I can tell you there were more than a fair share of times that I considered switching to an easier major, but perseverance and diligence will drive you to success and your ultimate acceptance to dental school. Good luck!

personally, i'd drop physics and take some other requirement.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think life would be so much easier if I drop Physics and then take an elective instead like some of you suggested. Thanks again.

hey neil also keep in mind of ur cirriculum.. cuz in my school i had to take physics 1 2 and 3 so i started my physics from first quarter.. also in my first quarter i took chemistry calculus java and hum. so make sure w/ ur advisor or course ciriculum. good luck
