I am an incoming freshman with an Associate's degree. I just found out that in order to participate in undergraduate research at my university, I would have to take 2-3 courses as prerequisites. I am considering clinical research at a hospital, however, all of the hospitals near my university are not teaching hospitals. Is it still possible to participate in research at a regular hospital? Does anybody in this forum have any experience with getting research done at a hospital or clinic? The only experience I've had involving researching was spending a year as an intern at a research and development company where I helped create solutions to detect peroxide based explosives. If I don't do any possible research at a hospital and no research on campus due to the courses I need to complete, I would only have 2 years of undergraduate research experience; counting the internship and opportunities next year (after completing the prerequisites). How would that look for medical schools? I figured if that was the case, then I will compensate it with a bunch of extracurricular activities.
