Quick 3 year HPSP question.

I read a lot about people applying for the 3 year HPSP only because they didn't apply in time for the 4 year. What if I've saved up enough money to pay for 1 year of med school, so I choose to apply for a 3 year HPSP scholarship. Do you/Can you apply for a 3 year HPSP before med school starts??? If so, do they pay for first 3 and I pay for last or vise versa?

My plans are to pay for 1 year, take 3 year HPSP, and serve 3 years as a flight surgeon.

I am leaning towards this, because I am going to attend DO school, and I am really interested in FM/OMM. The military will not pay for me to do FM/OMM, only FM.

Do they pay for first 3 and I pay for last or vise versa? - Vise versa
