I'm almost at the end of my second semester and I am really embarassed to have to ask this, but...
How much ATP can be produced per NADH and FADH2? My book doesn't appear to have a clear answer.

Approximately 3.5 ATP per NADH, and 2.5 per FADH2

I was taught 1.5 fadh2 and 2.5 nadh.. it depends on how u calculate it.. shuttle systems etc.. but i thought 1.5 and 2.5 was the standard number

I'm calling shenanigans on this one.

Anybody have a beef with 3 and 2 respectively? Seems alright for an undergrad class. The OP asked "can be produced" so I'm fine ignoring losses in shunts used to move 'em into the mitochondria.
 
it is 3.5 and 2.5 created respectively but 1 ATP is lost during the various shunting systems leaving you with 2.5 and 1.5 net ATP
