Hey guys-

So, according to all that I've read on here schools see virtually the same thing we see of our AMCAS when we print it out - hence my question - I see no indication that the course I listed is a combined lab/lecture course...does this mean I have to enter in each of my labs seperatley, even though they were for no credit? Thanks a million

This is an interesting question that I wondered about when I was applying. The reality is though, I don't think ADCOMs have the kind of time necessary to go through each course in that kind of detail anyway. They tend to look at your cumulative gpa and science gpa figures and then do a quick review of coursework and grades/trends. This is part of the reason that you don't get credit for taking harder versions of courses or a hard load of classes in a quarter-- the adcom just doesn't have time to look at your application with that level of attention to detail.

In answer to your original question, list exactly what is on your transcript. DO NOT add a separate lab course if you had an integrated lecture/lab class as this will be corrected by AAMC and "x"ed. They'll also probably wonder what you were smoking.

If the lab was part of the course, you enter the course name followed by: and lab. If the lab was seperate, then it gets listed on its own.

ok...here's a curveball...lab was NOT seperate but it's on the transcript seperatly, for 0 credit, with a pass grade of S...what do I do? I listed the PE courses that I took for no credit...

Just list it as a O credit class with a grade of "S." It won't have any effect on the number calculations, but should be listed none-the-less. The general idea is list everything that is on your transcript on AMCAS and list it with the same info as on your official transcript.

If it was on the transcript seperately, then list it seperately. Have you asked AMCAS what to do yet? There not super friendly (they usually just read pages out of the manual we get) but they can probably help you out.

IF you don't I think that they would realize that the course included lab. Don't worry about it, no big deal
Just chill

I actually emailed about this exact question...here is what AMCAS said...

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for contacting AMCAS.

The lecture/lab designation will be provided to the medical schools to
which you apply, however, this designation will not appear on the
applicant's print out.
