hey guys. i just have a couple of quick questions. i'm a 4th year finishing up an away rotation in anesthesia next week, for which i am applying for residency. i have interviewed at this program already, but have a number of interviews coming up in december. i already have 2 anesthesia letters and 2 IM letters. I was wondering if it was necessary to obtain a letter from this program as well or is it too late in the process? Additionally, as it may be difficult to get a letter from here since I worked with so many different attendings, is it a big problem if I don't get one from here? thanks in advance!

Who would you send it to? Haven't you already sent all 4 of your letters to all your programs? I think not getting one this late in the game when you already have the max 4 letters will be fine.

hey thanks for the quick reply. i was thinking that maybe if I uploaded to ERAS, the other programs where I haven't interviewed yet could see it and upload it to their file before my interview. but now that i think about it, with the holidays coming up, the letter may not be ready in time for many of my interviews.

Well that but also as discussed in a few threads here, its generally frowned upon to deactivate one letter to send a 5th (ERAS only allows 4 total). Technically they will see all 5 but some programs will ignore the deactivated one, some will consider all 5 and some will be annoyed that you can't follow instructions.

I wouldn't stress about it. Sounds like your other letters are probably stronger anyway.
