This may sound more of a "rookie" question, but since I couldn't get a hold of anyone by phone and didn't get a reply by e-mail yet, I decided to ask it here. I'm currently in my last semester at Oakton Community College and looking to transfer for the upcoming Fall 2014 semester. One of my options, University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC), requires at the very minimum General College Bio w/ lab (Finished), English Comp I and II (Finished), Psychology (Finished), but once it gets to Pre-Calculus.. I'm confused. I have yet to take the course at my community college, but I took it in high school. Would this be enough to permit me into the Kinesiology department? Or, would you all instead offer it best for my interest if I were to take it once more? I managed a B in high school on it if I remember right, but I'm just thinking ahead because I'd need to take Calculus as a pre-requisite for either UIC or Northwestern when the time to apply to PT schools comes, taking Pre-Calculus wouldn't be a terrible option. I also understand that I'm starting educational quest to becoming a PT at a community college, but due to financial factors, it became my best bet. I'm currently at a 3.77 GPA and cannot wait to continue it.

If anyone is attending or have attended the schools I am planning to apply to, please if you may offer me advice on which you'd seem to be the best bet for a prospective graduate student in PT. The schools are the following:

University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (Kinesiology Major/Pre-PT)
University of Illinois Chicago (Kinesiology Major/Pre-PT)
Marquette University (Athletic Training or Exercise Physiology Major/Pre-PT)
University of Wisconsin Madison (Kinesiology/Pre-PT)
Loyola University (Exercise Science/Pre-PT)

I'd honestly be very intrigued by a Athletic Training major, too for it'd be nice to one day be certified as an ATC and DPT. Realistically, I can too say time is still far away, but we all think about the future far and wide. Thanks if anyone does reply to this. From one dream follower to the next, I wish you all the best.

I took Precalc in high school as well but needed to retake it in college as well as calculus. I did not do a PrePT program, I got my 4 year degree and have just applied to grad school, so it may not apply to you as it did for me. Best of luck to you!

I took calc in high school and had to retake it in college because I did not take the AP test for it. I would assume you would have to have had the college credit for the pre-calc or test out of it in order not to have to take it again.

Also, I would just like to say starting at a community college should not hurt your chances of getting into PT school. I went to a community college for the first two years and transferred to a four year university, and I have been accepted into a DPT program. While I did not attend the CC you're at, I would just recommend you make sure that all of the classes you are/will be taking will transfer to the school you want to go to next. Time and money saver if you double check that. Good luck with everything!
