I'm seeing this dark ridge around the optic disc. Looking at normal photographs, it also appears, so i assume its normal.

What is it though? Just a shadow?

Thanks

I am no ophthalmologist - but an applicant to ophthalmology - I've see this in clinic many times and I think that's just pigmentation which is not pathologic and it is pretty common.

Lets see what the experts say.

peripapillary atrophy around the optic disc seen as either scleral (white or grayish white) or choroidal (black) crescents. Seen in degenerative myopia but not necessarily always. not alarming.

Usually not alarming, but can be associated with glaucoma, POHS, optic atrophy, myopia, and other diseases.
