The problem:

How many grams of HCl is required to form 4.0 grams of hydrogen gas in the equation below?
Zn + 2HCl ---> ZnCl2 + H2

Is it okay that I solved it like this?

2HCl = X
H2 4.0g (this <----4 is after the equal sign but sdn is not allowing that )
I set it up as a fraction, then I thought about it and realized 4 grams of h2 really means 2*h2.
Next I did this,
4HCl = added it up

Yes, I got the right answer, but can I do it like this? Will I always get the right answer doing it my way?

Versus....

mass of hcl = 4.0g h2 (1 mol h2/2.0g h2) (2mol hcl/1 mol h2) (36.5g hcl/1 mol hcl) = 146g
