I really want to go to Howard and was told its easier to get in as an URM.

I'm Obamian - 1/2 black 1/2 white - and I clicked the white and black boxes, but not the disadvantaged box because I am fortunate enough not to live in poverty. Will Howard still realize I am 1/2 black-- I just want to be considered at an equal level as all the other middle-class AAs-- or will they not consider me a minority because I didn't click the box?

so you actually believe the disadvantaged box=urm box? or that a urm box even exists?

First and contrary to popular belief, Howard doesn't automatically accept every URM that applies there. There are quite a few non-URM folks in every class as all of Howard's professional schools are quite diverse. Second, ethnic designations are self reported. You can check (or not check) anything that you want. Third, if you think Howard is easy to get into or even easier if you check URM boxes, ask the thousands of applicants who are rejected each year.

If you believe that you are black, then check the box that says "AFrican American/Black" (as there is no URM box). There really is no strategy here; you honestly check the box that represents who you are and then the medical school decides what to do with it. And trust me, there are more non blacks at Howard than you think.

This thread seems a bit trollish.

You know that historically in America you are considered Black, right? I don't see how or why you are concerned.
1) I think HU considers you a URM as well (it's when people have a great grand auntie that had a black dog who then try to claim URM that gets the disapproving eyebrow-raise)
2) Getting into HU is less about your racial status and more about your desire to serve the under-served communities of this nation. If this is not your aim, I don't care if you're black, white, orange, [insert random color], you're probably going to have difficulty getting in.
3) You're educated, so you should know that URM ≠ disadvantaged. Do better.
