Rad. Onc.

  1. Hey. I am a 2nd year med student. I want to go into Radiation Oncology, but I feel during my internship year (PGY-1) that I should have that year to Internal Medicine (to have more hands on experience) and then go into Rad. Oncology residency. Can I do that?

I think you're supposed to do that. Preliminary IM (and Prelim Surgery)is used for the PGY1 training of many specialties. One of my buddies scrambled to a Rad Onc at Hahnemann slot and he is now doing a prelim Med PGY1 at St Barnabus in New Jersey in preparation for his Rad Onc next July.
