Radiology 2012 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
True, but you gotta figure the big dawgs getting PIC from top places are going to get non top tier PIC even more.

Idk, that wasn't true for me; I didn't get PIC from any non-top tier place.

MGH and Arizona.

Really hoping to stay in my top 6. Not really nervous now just impatient. Vastly different programs and locations in my top 6.

Northwestern for me.

Hoping to stay in top 10.

Yea I got that email saying I am "historically ranked to match." Obviously, I'm hoping that works out.

I'm sure it will. A lot of people aren't ranking them high b/c of location, including at least one of the people that got a call 😉 If it were in CA (or even chicago) I'd have ranked them #1 in a heartbeat.

Same here. I got the historically RTM email but am not ranking them high. Hope this helps!

Number 1 was MGH and last was Ohio State.

Had positive experiences at all the places I interviewed and would be happy at any of them. Good luck everyone.

BTW 2012mdc--I'm pretty sure we interviewed at MGH on the same day. Good luck man.

]Also Drizz--curious, did UCSF tell you that you're RTM? Congrats regardless!

Being RTM there would be nice... they didn't say that outright, but I did get contacted by a few people this past week. We'll see what happens. I feel pretty good about things there and at my 2-7, haha.

Thanks man. Good luck to you as well. I was there Dec 9th I think. You were then?

Now that rank lists are set and I can't do (that) much to screw my chances at this point, I had a question I was burning to ask...

Did any of yall end up paying for your pre-IV dinner??

I IV'd at one of the better-known programs in the south. We went to a fairly nice restaurant, and when the check came, everyone ended up pulling out their own CCs, so I did too! The residents didn't even offer to pay or anything of the like, making it seem like it was the way things were run at this place. I was shocked, and it kinda turned me off what is considered a pretty good program.

Anyone have experiences like this?

Wow... No that never happened to me; that'd be a big turnoff. Sometimes we'd have to pay for booze, tho.

UTSW had people pay for alcohol if that 's what youre refering to

Had to pay for parking at two IVs. Was annoyed, but not enough to knock them down my list.

Nothing like that happened to me either.

A few places (UTSW, UCI) made us pay for alcohol but they let us know beforehand and it wasn't a big deal.

At Mayo the residents had to pay for applicants booze. They didn't appreciate one girl ordering 5 gin and tonics and a glass of wine lol.

Since everyone else has shared....

#1 - MUSC
#15 - U. Missouri

Ohhh Okay...Any idea about the one in Kansas CIty? Any idea if KU is better than UMKC or vice versa?
I cancelled it (late in the season and far away), but the packet they sent me had a pretty impressive fellowship matchlist. Also they have a unique built in intern year where you round as the radiology consultant (not sure about the details, just heard about it second hand).

Thanks. I actually interviewed at both places on consecutive days and found them nice. However, something felt better about KU more than UMKC. So just wanted more opinions on it.

I ended up ranking KU ahead of UMKC, but only after a lot of debate. I think I would be fine at either, but I agree that something just felt slightly off at UMKC.

Yeah same here. Did you get any post interview communication from them? I got a letter from UMKC afterwards but i assume every one gets it.

Yeah, I got a letter too. Wasn't too sure how seriously to take it.

I definitely meet drizz, rem, badassshairday, and illusive man. Wonder who else I met.

Yeah I know, that was a good group, I think you were sitting next to me in the morning. I liked that interview!

Yeah I was haha. Awesome group and also loved that whole interview.

2012 - may have met you at a prelim/TY interview

Northshore! Fairly low on the list for intern year for me tho
...

Yeah same here. If I end up back east for rads I'm hoping for Einstein or Mt Sinai Miami (schedule sucks but Miami Beach for a year would be awesome)

UMich made residents pay for the applicants' booze. Residents didn't seem to know about this beforehand though, which made for an awkward moment when the bill came. Yikes.

I'm pretty sure we met, but I don't remember where. I thought it was in January, maybe at one of the east coast programs. Talked about weird things happening on the interview trail/pre-interview dinners and NYU's filling wine to the top after every sip

also NW for me! wasn't feeling New Haven so Yale came in at 16.

best of luck to everyone!

+1. Seems like Brigham, MGH, UCSF, and NW are popular on here and auntminnie. Big surprise lol. Hopefully we get our top choices!

(Although fwiw, I did not receive any post-interview contact from NW other then a reply to a thank you email, so I'm not overly optimistic about my chances to land there, but we'll see)

Best of luck to everyone! :luck:
