Has anybody out there done a Radiology rotation at Tripler?
I was just wondering what the hours were like and what the schedule and faculty were like.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

There is lecture every day at 7:30 am and 4 pm. During the day you rotate through all the different radiologic specialties, spending 2 days in each. No weekends. Your only assignment is to write up a case for the teaching file, and to take tests in peds, neuro, and GI. If you are gung ho about doing your residency there you should arrange to do a couple nights of call and to do a presentation in one of the lecture slots above. The faculty and residents are really great, and TAMC is a pretty nice place. The only bad part is that you have a 90% chance of getting assigned to live up in Schofield, which is pretty nice, but the commute sucks, and I was assigned to share a rental car with a guy who was supposed to be there from 6 to 6 everyday. I ended up renting my own car. Hope that helps.

Hey, thanks so much for the info.
So I have a couple of more questions. I'm not applying to radiology for residency, I'm essentially going there to take advantage of being in Hawaii but also because I'd like to brush up on some radiology. I've heard Tripler is more hardcore for rads than other sites, but I'm wondering how easy it will before me to have time to enjoy my time in Hawaii (i.e. are there opportunities to get out early, etc) considering this will not be my specialty of choice.
Also, I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of friends living on the Island for the time being, so can I stay with them? I won't be asking for reimbursement as I will not be paying them rent (it's very cool of them).
Any more help you could give would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

I was thinking of doing the same thing....

bump

anyone done rad here recently? any updated info on time commitment and hours? i'm doing it as a NADT as of now in the fall of my third year. i'm hoping i get some time to enjoy the island as i'm giving up my vacation to do a four week rotation here (my school only allots 2 weeks for radiology, but it's coupled with 2 weeks of vacation).
