Hi guys,
I am deciding between taking a statistics course to raise my sci GPA or TA for an introductory biology laboratory. They have conflicting times so I can't do both. My current sci GPA is 3.40

Take the statistics course to improve your sGPA. GPA is an essential factor.

Can you get biology credit if you TA the course? When I was a TI for biology lab, it gave 2 credits for biology (as a TA I had no such luck though). I was wondering if you could do this?

Nope, not at my university

I would say take statistics, but that's only if you're 100% sure you can get an A+++ in it. If you're not sure TA, it's easy and if they give you a grade for it that's an easy A. I TA'ed for multiple courses back then, but only received credit

Take the class, get an A. TA the next semester. Maybe you can tutor the BIO class this semester.

I'm actually a senior so it's my last chance to TA for the lab class. (I am taking the rest of my premed requirements post graduation). But for the stats class I'm positive I can get an A

Take the stats class. It's actually a recommended class to take at many schools.

How much will an A in stats improve it? (ie to a 3.41 vs a 3.5)

Does TAing pay? (plus being a TA is a good EC IMO).

Those are things that are really important to know.

A in stats would increase it to 3.45. And yes TAing pays but not too much

I believe being a TA is one of the best ECs you can have. Shows good understanding of the material, the ability to teach, and the ability to communicate well (all are valuable qualities to have if you want to become a physician).

However, ultimately, GPA is more important. So if it will increase by 0.05, that's quite a bit for just one class, so I would say take Statistics.

+1 agree.

The answer is...raise your GPA. Right now, your GPA is low enough that you may not get secondary requests from some schools.

Go for the stats course 👍
