Geez, I am getting really sad about moving. I feel like I am leaving my entire life behind. 🙁 I really hated the last year of med school and have been so happy to get done, but now it is hitting me how many other things I am leaving.

OK I will stop being so emotional. I'm not an emotional person normally.
I know how you feel. I just cleaned out my hood and my bench area. It's kind of sad. I'm labeling all of my compounds and lab books in case other people need to use them. It's kind of amazing to see my work areas this clean, and it also makes me feel kind of sad . We'll feel better once we get to our new places, beary. I think for me, it's hard right now b/c I'm still in the old lab, but my best friend (who also graduated this semester) is already gone. He and I worked together for 4.5 years, and we had lunch together EVERY DAY. I really miss him when I'm here at lunch time. 🙁

Thanks folks. 😍 I cried out a contact but feel a little better now. My friends are throwing me a goodbye party tomorrow night - don't think I'll get through that without bawling.

But Q, you are definitely right that we will feel better when we get to our new places. I am looking forward to exploring a new town.

hmmm... never fainted/passed out. but once when i gave blood i got a little dizzy so they had to do the inverted thing... but i think the dizziness was due to the fact that they took multiple tries to get the dang needle in!

and the first time i was in the OR I kinda found it hard to breathe... but that lasted all of five minutes and then my body was adjusted to the cap, gown, mask, and heat (working in the tropics is not good for a noob)

Sorry for the lonely of leaving things behind. I know how that feels 🙁 my move out west (well at least compared to NJ and how I've never left the coast always at least 20-40 miles from water) was really hard. Leaving the familiar yet again, more often leaving the people.

A - congrats on the 2%.

I have yet to observe surgery 😡 *sigh*

I was supposed to sleep in this morning! Instead, I have been up since o-dark-thirty. I read Evo's blog on MySpace and (maybe it is the exhaustion) now I am super-obsessing obout how overweight I am. The line? "And for the love of God. Do not be FAT."

Like this doesn't bother me enough? Now, I am adding more stress to my overweight body. Which...of course...just adds more weight. Unless I get REALLY SUPER stressed at which point I lose weight and my mind. :scared:

I went to see a rheumatologist yesterday. Why do all the good-looking doctors have to be married? 😛

Hope you're feeling better soon, lili!

thaaaaaaaaaaaank you all!

but according to mommy, RN... i am forbidden to drink alcohol tonight. perhaps its a good thing this shin dig is cash bar.

I'm sure you are gorgeous PW. We're always harder on ourselves with our appearance than we need to be I think.

usually people take chloroquine before travelling and then more doses of chloroquine after they get there. chloroquine cant prevent infection by malaria but it can stop it from being able to do any damage to your RBCs, ie hemolysis. it keeps the bug from being able to reproduce in your RBCs so it prevents the fevers and all the thousands and thousands of malarial bugs from infesting your blood. the reason why chloroquine alone cant knock out malaria is that once the malaria gets into your blood it goes to the liver and hides out there in different life stages that chloroquine cant touch. once people get the liver stage they need to take primaquine as well to knock it out.

parts of africa now have chloroquine resistant strains, I dont know if where T is they have resistant strains but mefloquine or doxycycline can be used instead as prophylaxis if their is. the key thing is to wear insect repellent with DEET to keep the bugs from biting you in the first place.

Heh or you can have sickle cell anemia.

Hey Random People!

Anyone going to see Da Vinci Code tonight?
I'm going to Da Vinci Code and MI: 3 double feature at the drive in tonight :hardy:

We saw the DVC last night and it was suprisingly very good. My husband is the biggest movie critic and he even enjoyed it. I would recommend it.

Plus, the previews for the upcoming summer movies were good, too.

I think I'm going to see Cars when it comes out 😉

I wouldn't worry about that - the last kids movie I saw had kids talking all through it, and that's expected. Cars is for the kids, but it looks really darn cute!
lil, hope you feel better! have lots of soup!

my friend had a cocktail party last night, and we all dressed up. it was tons of fun! we also found out that comcast has karyoke on their ondemand feature! i 😍 karyoke

I agree. I think most of the poor reviews were politically motivated.

How did you handle the Catholic-bashing? I'm not a Catholic (am a fundamentalist protestant type) but the book really made me mad because it seemed like it made all the people of faith out to be villains. I know it is just fiction and all that, but wasn't sure I would want to see the movie because of that. (Dan Brown's other books have that same bent to them too - actually Angels and Demons was probably even worse. An enjoyable read, as was DVC, but big-time faith bashing).

heh my mom bought the book and i told her i'd read it first so she'd know if it's worth reading. so far i know of only one person who MAY protest it because she feels dvc slanders jesus. i haven't read that much yet so i dunno. i like tom hanks movies so i think i wil watch it sometime next month.

Sure! I'll be taking both class and lab and Mushy probably too. We can compare notes 😛
I'm debating on retaking ochem for the 4th time 🙁 I don't wanna take the lab but it looks like that is how it works. Oh and i've only taken ALL of ochem 2 x's. I withdrew last fall and the last time was in '97. Last semester I just wasn't happy with my grade.

I'm so excited about dinner tonight and it's only noon here. We just bought a barbeque and my husband is going to grill steaks.

YUM!!!!! I'm making potato salad to go with it. This is a big deal because I never cook! 😉

welcome to my summer.

He wrote that in his blog, or you're just feeling worried in general? 😕

He wrote that line in his blog, but I am always concerned about it. I have been overweight since I went into business for myself and was working obscene hours, but have not been able to take it off. It is not an issue of appearance...I am so over that. I just want to be healthy.

Just an obsession I guess...revived thanks to Evo. 😛

I don't agree that his books bash Catholics, or faith in general. I *do* think that people who are unable to conceive of alternative religions having as much validity as their own are going to dislike the books. Brown definitely does not buy the notion of there being only one correct faith or interpretation of faith. He offers an ALTERNATIVE VIEW of Catholicism, and it's an interesting idea, even if you don't buy its correctness. My opinion is that people whose panties are up in a wad about it ought to try to be, um, more little-C catholic in their thinking.... 😛

Well, that's a different story. But unlike Evo's opinions, your own opinions are something that you actually have control over.

I don't think I have my panties in a wad - I'm not just sure I want to give my money to something I disagree with (even though it is an interesting story and I enjoyed the book as a piece of fiction). That's all I was saying.

I wasn't saying you in particular, beary; I meant in general. Sorry if it came out that way.

I didn't really pick up on any Cathlic bashing. I think it did display Opus Dei in a negative light and romanticized the Priory of Sion, of which did exist, but its legitimacy is questionable.

If anything, I felt this was a story of two polar opposites of Catholicism. One believing the Mary Magdalene-Holy Grail theory and wanting to expose it, and the other believing the current doctrine and wanting to keep things the way they are.

It's no secret that Catholicism has had its share of corruptness in history, and there are some theories portrayed (such as witchhunts, etc.) that seem plausible to keep women from holding authoritative roles in the church, especially when some of the first disciples to spread the gospel after Christ's death were women.

However, because Catholicism has such a peppered history, it makes it easy to write a novel and adapt a screenplay to include consipiracy theories.

I recognize it as a work of fiction, as I did with the Last Temptation of Christ, Stigmata, the Exorcist (although based on a true story), and many others.
I take interpretive movies about Christianity for what they are - entertainment. But they do allow me to think critically about my religion and denomination and ask some really good questions to my priest.

Anyway, I enjoyed the movie very much and would highly recommend it.

I think this movie is not just about the Catholic belief about Jesus. All CHRISTIAN denominations believe the same fundamentals - He was the Son of God, did not marry, etc., etc. So not only could the Catholic church's foundation been shaken, but really every Christian would have to come to terms with the fact that everything they've learned has not been entirely true.

I don't fault the faithful who are upset about it. In fact, I really admire those who stand strong for what they believe in. They're only complaining about a movie - at least they're not blowing up the movie theaters! There have been Christians opposing many movies and tv shows, it's just that this is a sensational movie, so more will be reported about it. I haven't met anyone protesting it, and there were no protesters outside the theater where I saw it or in my hometown, so I really doubt as many people are upset as the media lets on.

I'm not really worried about whether Jesus was married or not and whether Mary Magdalene was the Holy Grail or not. Even if it was true, it wouldn't stop me believing.
