I loved Disneyland! Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Maybe you live too close to it guju... that tends to put a damper on things. Like when I lived in San Antonio... Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas....over rated. Please, don't ask me to go to the Alamo or the Riverwalk! 😉

Never been to disneyland, but Disneyworld in Orlando is soooooo overrated too. I was never too fascinated with it. I didn't even like Universal Studios Orlando either. Never been to the one in California. I only like Busch Gardens. Other then that, the others are boring.

oh i love busch gardens in tampa--that place rocks! disneyworld is ok i guess--i think i would love going with my little sister. universal in cali is so boring.

My husband and I went to DisneyWorld and Universal for our honeymoon. I thought it was a blast! LOL

I was pretty tired of amusement parks by the end of the week, though. 😉

We did too!!!!!!! 😉

My whole family went to Disneyland the week of my Freshman year, spring semester finals. I had to stay behind while everyone was living it up in Anaheim.

By everyone I mean aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. Jerks.

Yeah the Animal Kingdom was really cool. My favorites were the India area and the dinosaur ride. The India area had tigers at eye level separated by security glass. There weren't too many people there the day we went (It was December) and there was a tiger pacing in front of the glass constantly making eye contact. He would probably have pounced on me if there was no glass, but he was beautiful!

Wow Mr. T,

That is very cool!!!!!! Welcome back to randomness.

In all seriousness, I have never been to LA's DisneyLAND or Universal in Cali. Only the Florida versions. I think I went to Universal too many times that it got boring, and Disneyworld is more a kiddy place. Epcot is kinda cool but even that gets boring.

Only fun if you have a big group of friends because even if the theme park is boring you'd be hanging out. However, most times that I went it was with family.

I like Busch Gardens even if the only 3 things I do is go on the Congo River Rapids, Sky ride, jungle tour of the animals, and walk through the little area where you get to see all the different animals. Oh and I love standing on that bridge where you get splashed with a lot of water because of the log ride thing. I don't go on any of the roller coasters itself but those other things as boring as they sound are actually enough to keep me entertained.

My dad always loved Epcot and showing it to people who came from India. MGM was the most boring of them all.

I am working at a clinic here in southeast Ghana. Right now I get to see how they analyze blood/fecal/urine/pap samples for various diseases. I will shadow some doctors soon. My goal is to be able to compare the healthcare system here to that in the US.

I am just worried about contracting malaria. Heck I probably have it right now. Life is different here. I haven't really lived in a 3rd world country so it is a new experience. In a good way.

How has everyone been? I am still anxious about the MCAT score

Haha, that's the truth. Bone marrow biopsies are my killer. I passed out once watching an epidural even though it wasn't grossing me out or anything. There you folks know all my deep dark secrets. 😳
Well, I'll let you know when or if I have my first time. Like I posted in that thread, I pretty much just got used to feeling nauseated and faint all the time. But the feelings of nausea and faintness didn't get better. 🙁

It is definitely stupid and irrational. It is the root of ALL of my other fears. SERIOUSLY. I think the only way I will get over it is to just drop one of these days.

My dad alwasy says that people either faint or they puke. I puke. I don't mind that. I have read about how people hate vomit. I have no problem with it. Mine or anyone elses. It sounds funny, but I am the one that you want with you if you have to puke.

Have you ever fainted?
I have fainted and puked both, though happily not at the same time. I think I have low blood pressure or something, because if I get up too quickly, that can make me feel faint. But the two times I have actually fainted were due to donating blood. The needle doesn't bother me at all; I'd be fine for the first ten or fifteen minutes, and then things just started going gray from the edges of my field of vision. They had to revive me with smelling salts. For puking, assuming I'm not sick with food poisoning or something, my biggest problem is motion sickness. I get seasick, airsick if it's too rough, carsick if the driver keeps slamming on the breaks and then accelerating, and roller coaster sick if the ride turns me upside down too much. I'm ok with doing a loop or two, but those viking ship things where you go round and round over and over will seriously make me very ill. Interestingly, gravitrons, which spin around but keep you horizontal, do not make me sick. Evidently, it's not the spinning that does it; it's the being turned upside down.

Ok, so feed my anxiety... what it is like? I hear it's just like falling asleep. Are you woozy when you wake up? Is it scary?
I know when it's going to happen too. I start feeling light-headed, like there's not enough blood going to my brain (which is probably actually the problem). I have to sit down and put my head down, and the feeling will go away after a few minutes. I also feel faint sometimes if I haven't eaten and my blood sugar is low. The couple of times when I actually passed out, I knew what was happening, and I was sitting down, so it wasn't very scary. But basically like I said, I just saw my field of vision start to go gray from the outside to the inside, and the last thing I remembered saying was, "Guys, it's getting dark in here." Then the next thing I knew, I was smelling ammonium salts. Ammonium is strong stuff, very effective at reviving you. I did not feel woozy. Really, what I remember is that I felt pissed because they hadn't finished getting the pint of blood at the point when I passed out, and they stopped collecting it. Since it was an incomplete pint, the bastards discarded it. I was like, "I fainted to give you that blood, and you're just going to throw it away???" 😡

I think that if it happened to me, it wouldn't be from seeing it but from wearing the face mask and other stuff too tightly and that getting to me.

Good point about the face masks - those are a killer. I think you just get so hot gowned, gloved, masked, etc. For those of you who are worried about being embarrassed - I was in on a C-section and the ATTENDING passed out! So it was just a med student and an R1 until the senior resident got there! Sometimes it just happens.

Oh my goodness - yeah that could probably be me as an OB/GYN.

I agree - a big part of the problem is how hot those gowns and masks get. I think that was part of the problem when I had to sit down in the OR before (that and the weird suturing phobia that I'll have to get over).

Isn't there some drug you can take to prevent malaria?

Wow, my purging of medical knowledge is really taking off.

Something else we have in common. 😉

I took so much Dramamine once on a flight that an airline employee had to help me through the Minneapolis airport to get to my next flight. Now THAT was embarrassing. 😳

Is that what you want to do? I'll admit it is actually pretty cool, except for annual exams and the extreme intensity all the time. If I had to do something primary care that is what I would do. Oh and way too many women. 🙄

I can't read in the car. That will be make want to puke. Otherwise I don't get carsick.

I do know a couple tricks that are supposed to help (from my dad who gets pretty carsick). He focuses on a distant object and says that helps. Also, if it is cold outside, cracking the window and sticking your hand out is supposed to help too.

Or you can just drive - does anyone get carsick if they are the person driving?

That sounds like fun! I am not at all excited to see the Da Vinci Code but do want to see MI:3 (JJ Abrams 😍 )

I have all of a sudden gotten all stressed about moving. The packers come first thing Monday morning!! :scared:

All three of those things help me, too. So does just sitting in the front seat as a passenger. Not sure why, but it does.

I thought you could get a preventative injection for malaria. Hum... I guess I was wrong.

Somehow, this actually makes me feel better. I was so worried about showing weakness that it made the fear of fainting worse. Sounds like it is pretty common. Ha...who knew?

usually people take chloroquine before travelling and then more doses of chloroquine after they get there. chloroquine cant prevent infection by malaria but it can stop it from being able to do any damage to your RBCs, ie hemolysis. it keeps the bug from being able to reproduce in your RBCs so it prevents the fevers and all the thousands and thousands of malarial bugs from infesting your blood. the reason why chloroquine alone cant knock out malaria is that once the malaria gets into your blood it goes to the liver and hides out there in different life stages that chloroquine cant touch. once people get the liver stage they need to take primaquine as well to knock it out.

parts of africa now have chloroquine resistant strains, I dont know if where T is they have resistant strains but mefloquine or doxycycline can be used instead as prophylaxis if their is. the key thing is to wear insect repellent with DEET to keep the bugs from biting you in the first place.

those things definitely help me too. i don't think i've ever felt carsick while driving, though when i was out in cali 2 years ago, i drove my aunt's car from san diego to anneheim in lots of traffic and sun, and an hour later this was me in the bathroom: :barf:

i attribute that to the sun (we don't see much of that here in boston 🙁) and the insane traffic.

but yes, fingers out the window help a lot.

My poor baby - I'm taking my older daughter to the doctor tonight. She's had a fever off and on for 4 days now. I thought she on the mend this morning, but she woke up from her nap just miserable. 🙁 It just seems like this has been going on too long.

She also has a cough, snuffy nose, and red/watery eyes - the red eyes seems like a bizarre symptom to be and makes me think it's not just a cold.

I'm such a worrier mom. 🙁

Sounds like my husband, seriously. We just got back from the mall and his eyes were watering so badly it looked like he was crying. They are red, oh gosh they are red. His situation is allergies I am certain. He has horrible allergies.

Poor baby! Let us know how the doc appt goes. The new avatar is wonderful. But, I was still ga-ga over the old one.
