Yeah. Surprisingly, I only thought the mint m&ms were ok. Not anything that I'd go crazy eating. And you have to understand that I have an irredeemable sweet tooth. I brought her some of those mint chocolates from Target, the Choxies. Have you ever tried those? They're freaking fantastic. 😍 I probably ate like half the box myself. :meanie:

I will never change my name. It's just too much hassle, and I'm already Dr. Quimica anyway. Most of my boyfriends and fiances haven't cared. One did, and I told him that if it mattered that much to him for us to have the same last name, he could change his name to mine. :idea: But considering that I had no intention of marrying him, it was a moot point. That was the end of the conversation. :meanie:

They're guessing 2007 some time. The new book will also apparently be titled with a word starting with E and containing six letters like Eragon and Eldest. A green dragon will be involved. It will be longer than either of the previous two. That's all I can remember from the last time I read a fan site.

I haven't read the Dark Trilogy. Would you recommend it?

No, not a southerner at all. I grew up in the NE but really feel like a midwesterner. Must be all that NASCAR I watch and country music I listen to. :laugh:

I'm the opposite on this one. I have my degrees, but if I ever do get married, I will definitely take my husband's last name.

Do you just not like your last name, or you just like the tradition? In my case, it really isn't a principled stand as much as it is a matter of sheer laziness. :meanie:

Oh, I really like the tradition. My last name is fine. :laugh: I would even take my husband's last name if it was "baberi" or something so I would be "beary baberi."

I'm definitely not planning on changing my name, though i'm not anywhere close to being ready to get married. for me it's a laziness factor. I have lived all my life with one name, and if i changed it, it would be a lot of paperwork (and letting people know, etc.). And now that i can keep my cell phone number for life, i'm all set! 😀

Yeah - it's a different spin on the children/fantasy genre. He lacks character development at times but his world is so fascinating I can put up with it.

My current degrees are obviously in my maiden name, but when I got married I changed my name to Megboo Maiden Married (no hyphen). Pretty much made my maiden name a pseudo-last name. Now I can sign my speech therapy notes and professional documents with my maiden name but I'm known as Megboo Married in our social circles. The extravagant wedding was for me (and my mom), at least I could let myself be known as Mrs. Married out in our friendly circles 🙂.

When I graduate from med school (someday!), I will keep the way I changed it, so I will be Dr. Megboo Maiden Married, but Dr. Married for short. My Maiden name is a short one that sounds kinda cool and my husband likes that I kept it so long as I put the married name on my driver's license and SS card.

My husband's nickname in his rugby club is Chief Howling Wolf, so I'm known to the rugby club as Mrs. Chief, Mrs. Howling Wolf, or Mrs. Chief Howling Wolf, so I answer to that as well 😉.

It's not that bad - you just bring your marriage certificate and show it to the DMV and social security place and then take care of it for you. The only other thing I had to do was call the bank and credit card places to get my cards in my new name. It really didn't take much time at all. 😉

See, if you end up having kids together I think it would be more frustrating and annoying to have to explain that you all go together even if your last name doesn't match your kids'. 😉 Just my opinion, though.

Plus it was really important to my DH - he's very traditional in that respect (but really not in other marriage roles - kind of funny). He's a little hurt that I will be Dr. Maiden Name but understands my reasoning of not wanting phone calls at home from patients. Otherwise I would just do Dr. Married Name. 😉

Wow, I really thought I was going to be okay with this whole score release thing - but reading that someone at the AAMC said *NEXT WEEK* has my stomach in knots. I don't want to feel like I'm going to puke for the week! This is horrible.

I should just give one of you my ID and password and have you check for me. If it's below a certain number, you can tell me to get nice and drunk before I check for myself. :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

You'll be fine, oxeye. Call your mom or sister or a good friend and have her on the phone with you while you check. My mom and I were just screaming like crazy; I was at the lab, and one of the janitors actually came in to see who was murdering me. 😛

I just bought some Shampagne (sp?) at the grocery store. Hoping God won't curse me if I already bought the booze (said that in the release thread but figured it was worth repeating just to remind God about that).

Oxeye - you know you'll have an amazing score, no worries!!

My sister and nephew will be in town so I have someone to celebrate with (my sister) if I get a good score and someone to comfort me (my nephew) if I don't. (I can already hear my nephew "It's otay Aunt Monkey, don't cry!")

Okay - pet-peeve time:

I hate waiting for deliveries in a 6 hour time block. We're getting a mattress delivered this afternoon and it could be here in 10 minutes or it could be here in 5 hours.

A smaller window of time would be appreciated. 😉

VD - how are you Aunt "Monkey"? That's really cute. Especially because Monkey is what I call the baby when she's being silly!

I found out yesterday that I'm going to have a little niece!! My sister is pregnant with a baby girl. I'm so excited!! That girl is going to have *a lot* of clothes. I'm giving my sister all of my baby clothes that the girls have outgrown and I'm sure she'll end up buying stuff on her own too. :laugh:

So I just figured out that I need to write that damn diversity essay for TMDSAS.

"Please describe any personal characteristics and/or important or challenging experiences you have had that will contribute to the diversity of or provide educational benefits to the student body. "

I'm a white female. I'm not applying to Howard here. I doubt I'll up the diversity any.

Grr. I dunno what to write!

Ana, you're a non-trad, aren't you? Why? What have you been doing in the interim? That's what I wrote about for my secondaries whenever I got asked that question. I talked about being older, research and teaching experience, etc. Whatever makes you unique, that's what you should write about. Diversity isn't only about race/ethnicity.

that's freaking hillarious. but as i re-read the statement, it says for you to describe personal characts./challenging experiences that will contribute to diversity OR provide educ. benefits. so write about what you have experienced that will enable you to provide some benefit to the students that they might not get otherwise (even an anecdote you can share with the students that would allow them to see something from a different perspective). just a suggestion 🙂

I don't know why... but I'm losing interest in posting 🙁

So now to chime in:

I'm going to go by Dr. Maiden name. I've put my foot down on this issue. This is a first in my family, the first to go college on my dad's side. So really it's not just for me, but for my family as well.

Maybe it's the humidity, but I'm not freaking out about the scores. I get what I get. If I didn't do so well, I still have a chance to make it up. Falling on your face is a good thing, it makes you realize what you need to do to get what/where you want.

I'm starting to pack up my things for my move. I never realized how many clothes I had.

I might go by dr. maiden name if its allowed per state guidelines. We'll see later on.

As for my life, i just spent the past hour volunteering in the children's floor at a local hospital. Its a rehab floor and some of them are just so much fun. 😳

Oh and there must be a new thing that everyone thinks I'm like 22/23. ha. I think its because I probably act like a 17 y/o 😀

I hope you guys have a good night. I'm going to go work out, shower, make dinner and do some studying tonight!

I'm sure you MCATers did fantastic and I'll break out the champagne to celebrate!

Hey guys! Just wanted to say goodbye, my test is 2 weeks from tomorrow and I'm gonna be working hard. I'll be logging in at least once every couple of days to make sure i dont get stripped of being an smod (we have to be on a lot or we get demoted) but I wont be posting anymore.

You guys are the best! When I come back I'll have a new blogger blog site like beary's that WILL BE updated at least once a week and linked to from my myspace page. Please dont't forget me! lol

I'm totally lost on the conversations going on. Just been at school today at the lab doing some extractions and then went to B&N to study some MCAT bio stuff.

Not to turn this into an MCAT thread or anything..😛

But my progress is that I have 3 out of 10 bio chapters left to review and 1 physics chapter left to review and then I'm ready to do straight practice only.

Wooohooooo!!!!!
