I am so nervous about starting residency tomorrow - can't sleep, am sick to my stomach! (From nerves). Must settle down. *calm* *calm*

Now I'm down to 3 hrs of sleep. Yay.

You are there right now! Let us know how it went when you get back. 😀

Hee - found out there was no problem on my TMDSAS after all. Here's to freaking out for no reason. LOL.

Thank God!!!!!!

I know next year I will be flipping out more than usual, especially if this were to happen.

Makes me want to have my PS and LORs complete by March!!!!

Anyway....

Good luck to all the applications this year and the 8/06 MCAT folks.... I'm anxious to see how everyone fares!

My last post made me think about LORs.....

If I already know I want an LOR from a professor I've already worked with and I'm applying next year (June 07), when should I ask for the LOR, or could I ask now and put it in Interfolio? (He's notorious for taking FOREVER, even with subtle hints)

I'm applying then as well. I think that I'll probably ask for letters in Jan.

Not a bad idea. If I was as organized as you I'm sure I would have done it. 😉

Wow, I think my AMCAS is all done! I'm ready to pay my $160 (or is it $180?) as soon as I have my MCAT results.

This seems a lot more real all of sudden. :scared:

Maybe I should proof my ECs one more time to be sure ....

Me too. This was a hard part of being a non-trad - e-mailing a professor/thesis advisor you haven't spoken with in 4 years and asking "Hey, remember me? Want to help me get into medical school?" Fortunately, she did remember me and was very agreeable! 😀

Thanks guys...

I might ask after the summer semester is over, once he's back teaching for the fall. Then I will probably get it by February (knowing him).

This is the delicate situation, though - I worked with him a lot during my Ph.D. studies - he wasn't my mentor, but I was assigned to be his research assistant for my stipend. As a result I've got some authorship on a few articles and presentations. Translation: I was a data slave for running subjects/interpreting it. When my mentor decided to leave the program i was in, I decided to apply to other programs with profs doing research close to my interests - this particular prof wrote me a letter and got me into Northwestern's Ph.D. program, but I ended up declining entry to pursue medicine instead (I was a little jaded by my major prof leaving and NW wanting me to re-take just about every doc course I already took).

I feel kinda embarrassed about asking for another LOR, but I know he wrote an excellent one for me before....

How can I go about asking? I have an idea, but anyone have a good start?

If you do that, ask him to post-date it. It's best if the letter is less than a year old, from what I've heard.

Ana, glad that your app is ok. 🙂

well... everyone know that SDN will be down june 19th-21st.

i think we should have a chat set up. i can't get onto sdn chat, but elsewhere perhaps?

I've been trying to do this, but everywhere that used to be free now charges you like $50 and has all these hoops to jump through.

i'm taking the august mcat too........... 🙁

haha, I'm not slacking off...I run data analysis programs that take a few minutes for each subject, so I come over here in-between.

I survived my first day of residency! I finally got to meet yaah, which was the most exciting part of the day. My classmates all seem very nice. The campus is HUGE and I am lost all the time. Tomorrow I have to take another stupid standardized patient test thing. 😡 👎 Guess graduating from med school and passing Step 2 CS isn't enough. Ah well.

My first rotation will be micro, which is known to be a pretty light rotation. That is good because I will get to be eased into things I guess. Next week we have ACLS training which I will never use in my entire life. Anyway, it went pretty well. As is so common, all that freaking out over nothing.

Now I can't wait to hear from A-man!

Oh and I got 3 long white coats with "Beary, MD, PhD" embroidered on them. Pretty cool. 😎

oh i see, I want to do early decision at one school I really wanna go to but im so scared to do it

We don't have much choice unless we want to sell our house and give up my husband's income (his business is not able to be relocated without a severe loss of income). I'm a competitive applicant for my state school (pending MCAT results) so I figured it's the best choice for us.

If I don't get into my state school early decision I *might* apply to UCSF and Stanford as well. I have family near both of those schools who could help with the children while my husband stayed where we live now, but that's obviously not even close to ideal. Plus, I think my chances of getting in EDP to my state school are higher than my chances of getting into UCSF or Stanford at all.
