Things are ok here. Just issues. Some people always disappoint you and are so stupid. They think they have the world figured out but you can see into the future and see the total disaster. They don't care who they will end up taking down in the future. Blood is just water with RBC's nothing more. Doesn't mean ****. You'd think they'd learn ... maybe make an effort to change things. But more BS streams from their mouth ... and who do they turn to when they need help? FRUSTRATION!!! 😡 🙁 🙁

Hmmm. That didn't really clear things up. 😉

Yeah, for a second there I thought that she had merely copied and pasted from her earlier post. Mushy...maybe I am dense, but you are not helping things!! :scared:

Doesn't Bridgeport, Conn also have that mayor that confessed today to using coke while in office?

At first I didn't see what the connection was to that cat story.

I was just reading that the US has activated the "missile shield" because of the likely upcoming North Korean missile test! That's scary.

It kind of did. One of her family members is doing something foolish. It could be a parent, but parents are usually already on their life paths. So I'm guessing that it's a sibling or her hubby. Whoever/whatever it is, sorry, Mush. <hugs> to you.

Maybe I won't be taking the MCAT after all. :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

Hahaha. You crack me up.

My mom thinks my drinking coke is the worst thing EVER. It's kind of funny actually.

I cut back on the coke when a little old lady in line at my old work told me she was buying a can of coke to clean her toilet 😱

Hmmmm. Must be the phosphoric acid 😳

My ophthalmalogist said they use the same stuff to keep the cadavers. I still drink diet coke. In fact, I think I had one on the way home from that appointment.

What stuff? Something in coke? 😱

*studies label looking for formalin*

I should know this being a pathology HO and all.

Hmmm.... "natural flavors." That sounds suspiciously vague. There are all kinds of poisonous natural things.

I'm not a coke drinker, but I don't think anything could make me kick my Dr. Pepper habit. :meanie:

I didn't start drinking coke until my very last rotation of med school (ob/gyn). Now I'm addicted to the caffeine and get a headache every time I try to not have one. I just need to quit soon and have a headache for a bit.

I'm trying to at least switch to diet coke so I don't get the calories. But coke is SO good. It seriously is one of my greatest pleasures in life. Diet coke just doesn't have the same satisfaction.

i am a cherry coke addict. but now i'm switching over to seltzer. all i need are the bubbles.

*****HUGS****** muuuuuush, things will be okay!

so beary, would you say you're a heavy coke user or only a sporadic user? 😀

A regular user, but relatively small doses. 😉

I usually have one bottle of coke a day. (A 24 oz bottle, not a 2 L. 😛 )

A can isn't enough to keep my cravings at bay.

Caffeine headaches are the worst. I just went through caffeine detox myself. I was drinking 3-4 Dr. Peppers a day. I've weaned myself down to 1 or 2 a week (since 3-4 full sugar sodas a day was not helping me lose weight, ). But the headaches were awful for awhile there.

wow, 3rd year is gonna suck. i just got thrown into the deep end of the freaking pool for real today. long story, i'm too sleep deprived to type it out but overall today sucked ass. it was like what med school looks like in the movies, some parts were just so nasty and cold. first time in med school that i've honestly felt like it was really like this.

tomorrow i'm in the peds ER from 8AM-5PM and then guess what? I'm on call in the Peds ER right after. wtf............................ no joke, between vampire and the other stupid things i wanted to get done since the usmle last friday i've slept a combined total of 4 hours in the last 40. i'm just posting to say hi, i'm going to bed NOW. yeah, at 615PM EST. my brain is throbbing and i need to get some sleep before my call night.

as a side note, congrats to everyone that got their scores! i'm very happy for you guys. truly. 👍

My bf drinks soooo much coffee and espresso that when he doesn't have it, he gets awful headaches. i told him he should cut back...but now that I think about it, maybe we should all be drinking more, so that we can kill the MCAT like VD did with all her caffeine...hahah 🙂

Blech, I'm sorry A. That sounds miserable. 🙁 I hope you get through the next couple days okay.

I don't quite understand why med students have to be on-call so much. You don't ever get to be the decision maker right?

Oh A-man. 🙁 I am glad you are going to bed and hope you sleep well.

The beginning of 3rd year is really hard because you don't really know what to do or what is expected. It will get easier once you figure out the ropes.

Some of it is nasty and cold - screw those people. Seriously. You have us and your local friends and your family there for you.

No you don't. Med student call is extremely stupid. I can think of about 2 things I ever actually learned on call in all my time in med school. And if something does happen to your patients, nobody is actually going to call you. The only possible exception to this is your sub-I, maybe. Though that was I think my worst month in all of med school.

Is it just to break you in and get you used to no sleep before your first year of residency then?

What's the point?

Can you tell I'm dreading it?

It is miserable and dread-worthy (not to take away from the joy of your MCAT scores. 😛 ) There is no point. Honestly, this isn't just bitterness speaking, though I am bitter about it. Path call is different but if I ever had a med student with me who was supposed to take call I would send them home for sure.

Supposedly the point is to follow your patients and see what happens to them overnight, do admissions, get more experience, etc. This sounds nice in theory but just isn't how it works in real life. Admissions are dumb anyway once you've done a few. You're going to talk about the patients ad nauseum on rounds in the morning anyway. Mostly you just do scut like carry around stuff for residents, make photocopies, or just sit around.

Sounds lovely. 🙄 I just hope 3rd year will go quickly for me. I'm dreading it even more because if I go to my state school, I will have to spend at least 18 weeks (possibly more) away from home and my kids. The thought of that right now makes me want to cry. But maybe when they are 4-5 and 6-7 it won't bother me as much?

Money isn't everything. Seriously. If it were, I would be back in my old life. Instead, I drool over y'all's (yes, it is a word...ask Ana...it's a Texas thing...and yes, I did include 2 apostrophes!! )accomplishments 24/7. My sister is 2 years younger as well and totally bankin' it...in a city where it costs nothing to live.
Yup - it's a word. TEXAS POWER!! WHOO HOO!!

(BTW, score still hasn't hit me. I hate to harp on it but I still like I'm in a cloud and the AAMC is going to call anyday and tell me they gave me the wrong score. )

Dude - I am so obsessed with coffee. Though I didn't end up wearing that shirt w/ the caffeine molecule like I planned.

Okay so I'm caught up on the thread now and I have a few things to say:

Oxeye: don't stress or be disappointed. Your score is amazing. You're going to get in wherever you want to go (hopefully that will be in Texas so I can play with your beautiful daughters). You'll always be my MCAT guru. 😍

S&M: You've got too much research experience to let your score freak you out. You're going to be an amazing researcher and any MD/PhD program that doesn't see that... well they can just bugger off can't they? I've got faith in you and I'm going to be around saying I knew you when after you find a cure for cancer.

To everyone asking for MCAT hints: if I thought my score was anything more than a giant cosmic joke I would be glad to share. I honestly don't know what I did to deserve my score. Makes me think of that verse in 2 Corth 4:7: We have these treasures in jars of clay so that the surpassing power will be from God and not from ourselves.
I really think that score was the result of lots of prayer and gifts that I got from God and not representative of myself at all.

Yes Q is right its pretty much family issues of a particular sibling who has just made a huge mistake which ultimately will come to bite them in the ass as well as it will affect the family in the long run. They don't see it nor do they care to see it. They are a selfish bastard which is why we have stopped talking to that sibling. 🙁 Its just so sad but it causes us too much worry, heartache, and pain otherwise. People don't think and need to grow up.

I'm all for people needing a license to breed. Anyone second the motion?

Thanks for the concern guys. Its just something that really effects me. And has been ongoing for a long time. Gets worse and worse. You're supposed to have family to be there for you but sometimes, they just can't if you decide to go out on your own. Heartbreaking but sometimes it happens. I know some of you understand.

I like people like you. Never cocky and always humble with good fortune. I admire that a lot, but you have to give yourself a little more credit! 🙂

Yeah, something in Diet Coke. Or maybe it was all Coke. I don't know. But, that is what he said. Right there in his office at Hopkins. I have a tendency to believe him....the guy figured out why the heck I couldn't see. In 15 years no one else has been able to do the same.
