what's everyone want for a first, self owned car.....or what was your first car (for you senior citizens 😀) ?

I want mine to be a Ford Mustang

My first car was a 1977 MGB 😍 😍
I spent HOURS under the hood of that car... carried spare alternators in the trunk because they failed so often, re-wired the whole thing from scratch... I was terribly sad when she blew a cylinder.

Now I drive a VW Cabriot. Much more practical than an MGB, but still a lot of fun. My Dad just got a Mustang, and loves every minute of it.

There is a guy on my husband's rugby team who brags all the time that his union job pays him $34/hr to turn water on and off.

Ridiculous.
Exactly, US industry is going to run dry and this same person will be claiming unemployment benefits for his grossly inflated wage.

Yeah...they kinda brought it on themselves. Paying unskilled labor 2-3 times their market value isn't too cost effective.

yea exactly......the unions of Ford and GM just caught up to them eventually...

Hyundai has the right idea....hey, let's open a factory in Alabama, nobody knows what a union is down there!

i'm sad to hear the mg died what sounded like a slow, painful death, but i'm sure you had a blast with it, what a classic!

Uh... Mercedes has a factory in Vance, Honda has one in Lincoln, Hyundai in Montgomery, and Toyota engines are made in Hunstville as well as Daimler-Chrysler electronics. Some have UAW employees.

my first car was a ford tempo. damn I miss that thing. Got it up to an estimated 130 miles and hour (speedometer didn't go up that high 😛)

Wow, where'd you find to get away with that?

Anyone read "The Devil Wears Prada?"

I think I "read" about half of it in bits and pieces when I was studying at home a few weeks ago and my mom was listening to it on cd over a couple days... I remember kind of getting in to it at the end and couldn't concentrate on anything I was doing. I remember liking it, I think 😕

JLW....how many kids...kids and pens, kids and cars....hum...some great parenting there.

Hubby lost his cell phone last night - apparently while we were out at Cold Stone. In the last few months he has made a habit of it. 😡 So we are headed to T-Mobile to get him ANOTHER new one. He has this funny idea that we are going to stop at lost and found in the mall and somehow it will have been turned in. I don't know what he is smoking, but apparently it is pretty good.

(He just read this over my shoulder *nosy* and said that:
1. it wasn't in the last couple of months...it was last year
2. he doesn't like cell phones THAT is why he loses them

Whatever.

Now he just muttered "You and your little group." I think that calls for and act of the Amish Mafia (aka Beary's Posse) :meanie:

HA HA HA HA!!!!! OMGLOL!!!!!!!!

My husband frequently says the SAME thing when he reads over my shoulder. He also gets a little jealous when I post with you guys instead of cuddle with him 😉.

BTW - how do you like T-Mobile? My Nextel contract is up and looking for cheaper service....

3 kid vs. car- 2 on bikes, one on foot. luckily no serious injuries for any of them.

my first car was a mitsubishi eclipse. 1991, prolly the best year ever. that baby was a tank... got into many accidents with that baby and not a ding. and we're not talking pansy cars, we're talking old school pick ups and snotty vehicles.

when i got my first job i got a ford taurus. i needed a bigger car after the eclipse, but the explorer was too expensive for me. love my car to bits.

and i have verizon for my phone carrier. have no complaints with the dropped calls, never really had that problem with other carriers either. the only downside to verizon is that i can't take my phone overseas. and i am not going to shell out the dough to use their international phone.

I had verizon when I lived in the south and it was great. When i moved to Northern Illinois I was constantly getting dropped calls. It was starting to affect my business so I switched to Nextel, since my husband's work phone is thru Nextel. Unfortunately it's more expensive.

You know what really grinds my gears?
Bicyclists riding on the road.

The physics of an accident there is asking for disaster.

ahem... SHARE THE ROAD damnit! bikers got feelings too 🙁

that said i don't bike on the road... i like dirt paths and rocks and junk.

I was tired of my lady
We'd been together too long
Like a worn-out recording
Of a favorite song
So while she lay there sleeping
I read the paper in bed
And in the personal columns
There was this letter I read

"If you like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
If you're not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you'd like making love at midnight
In the dunes on the Cape
Then I'm the love that you've looked for
Write to me and escape."

I didn't think about my lady
I know that sounds kind of mean
But me and my old lady
Have fallen into the same old dull routine
So I wrote to the paper
Took out a personal ad
And though I'm nobody's poet
I thought it wasn't half bad

"Yes I like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food
I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon
And cut through all this red-tape
At a bar called O'Malley's
Where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes
And she walked in the place
I knew her smile in an instant
I knew the curve of her face
It was my own lovely lady
And she said, "Oh it's you."
Then we laughed for a moment
And I said, "I never knew."

That you like Pina Coladas
Getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean
And the taste of champagne
If you'd like making love at midnight
In the dunes of the Cape
You're the lady I've looked for
Come with me and escape

Nibblin' on sponge cake,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing.
Smell those shrimp
They're beginnin' to boil.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.

Don't know the reason,
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo.
But it's a real beauty,
A Mexican cutie, how it got here
I haven't a clue.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
Now I think, - hell it could be my fault.

I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top,
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville

Bike on the sidewalks when possible. A pedestrian/bicycle accident isn't going to end in death nearly as often as a car/bicycle.

sidewalks aren't for bikes. they are for rollerbladers.

dont they have bike only lanes out there? we've got them all over at school.

and then there is the city. i saw i girl biking fifth ave... in stilletos and a big poofy skirt.

This is midwest suburbia. Of course we don't have bike lanes.

I agree 100000000% bicyclists out in the country around here love to ride 2-3 ABREAST. These country roads get windy and hilly around the rivers - how stupid do you have to be to ride 2-3 abreast when a car is coming at 55 mph? Or two cars in opposite directions????????????????

If they are in single file I got no problems - the roads are wide enough here to accomodate it. But 2-3 ABREAST is asking for trouble, and I'm sorry, if they're trying to make a biker-supported "point" by doing that, it's going to end badly for them.

THIS is soooo much better than Margaritaville....

He went to Paris lookin' for answers
To questions that bothered him so
He was impressive, young and aggressive
Savin' the world on his own

But the warm summer breezes
The French wines and cheeses
Put his ambition at bay
The summers and winters
Scattered like splinters
And four or five years slipped away

Then he went to England, played the piano
And married an actress named Kim
They had a fine life, she was a good wife
And bore him a young son named Jim

And all of the answers and all of the questions
Locked in his attic one day
'Cause he liked the quiet clean country livin'
And twenty more years slipped away

Well the war took his baby, the bombs killed his lady
And left him with only one eye
His body was battered, his whole world was shattered
And all he could do was just cry

While the tears were a-fallin' he was recallin'
Answers he never found
So he hopped on a freighter, skidded the ocean
And left England without a sound

Now he lives in the islands, fishes the pilin's
And drinks his Green Label each day
Writing his memoirs, losin' his hearin'
But he don't care what most people say

Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he'll smile and he'll say
"Jimmy, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way"

We got married in a fever
Hotter than a pepper sprout
We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson
Ever since the fire went ou-out
I'm goin' to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around
Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson, look out Ja-ackson town

Well, go on down to Jackson
Go ahead and wreck your-our health
Go play your hand you big-talkin' man
Make a big fool o-of yourself
Yeah, go to Jackson, go comb your hair
Honey, I'm gonna snowball Jackson, see-ee if I-I care

When I breeze into that city
People gonna stoop and bow (Hah!)
All them women gonna make me
Teach 'em what they don't know how-ow
I'm goin' to Jackson, you turn 'n' loosen my coat
'Cause I'm goin' to Jackson
"Goodbye," that's a-all she wrote

But they'll laugh at you in Jackson
And I'll be dancin' on a Pony-y Keg
They'll lead you 'round town like a scalded hound
With your tail tucked between your legs
Yeah, go to Jackson, you big-talkin' man
And I'll be waitin' in Jackson, behind my Jaypan fan

Well now, we got married in a fever
Hotter than a pepper Sprout
We've been talkin' 'bou-out Jackson
Ever since the fire went ou-out
I'm goin' to Jackson, and that's a fact
Yeah, we're goin' to Jackson, ain't never comin' back

Well, we got married in a fever
Hotter than a pepper sprout'
And we've been talkin' 'bou-out Jackson
Ever since the fire went...
