Sorry - this came to mind when I read your post. 😀 You can tell what I've been reading lately.

Gosh, I hope I don't get asked that question on my interview. "What interesting books have you read lately?" I could go on and on about Dr. Seuss but that might not impress them.

😉 What are you up to today? I'm going grocery shopping and watching the race. And working, oh yeah.

What are you working on today? Work, work or preparing another presentation?

I've got a fun-filled day planned. Laundry, vacuuming, dusting, and general cleaning upstairs (it's a disaster area up there!). Fun stuff. 😉

Did I tell you guys I made banoffee pie last night? So good - grahm cracker crust, carmelized condensed milk (makes the toffee filling), cut up bananas, fresh whipped cream.

I think I'm going to bust. If anyone wants to know how to make it, it's really easy but it looks like you spend all this effort making it.

I have to prepare infectious disease rounds for tomorrow and study. We have these teaching sessions that we need to prepare for with looking at study sets (prepared slides of cases) and unknowns to make some attempt to come up with a diagnosis. 😀

My pager went off this morning and I practically had a seizure. It was a wrong number. 🙄

Anastasis,

I was in blockbuster last night and thought of you when I saw that new movie VD has out. Ya know, where he plays an old guy with hair! Have ya seen it?

Hi A-man. 🙂

How long do you have to stay at the hospital today?
until i get an admission from the pedi ER to write up. then i have to write a progress note on another patient. when thats done i can leave, i need to read through like 14 more cases in my case files book though today for my shelf exam this friday so i may just stick around until late tonight reading. if i go home i might slack off and probably wont finish. if i finish case files today i'll have 4 days to race through 500 peds questions in another book in between working up patients this week. awww... medical school.

you'll be surprised at how much down time you actually have as a med student sometimes. its not that crazy all the time, thats what i thought too when i was a premed. its just that people dont talk about the down time, they just bitch about weeks like this one.

Yeah, I am actually finding that out from some friends who go to USF. YOu also told me how nice it is to have all the lectures recorded!

STICK AROUND THE HOSPITAL???!!! :scared:

Dude, the instant I could leave I was out of there so fast. I wouldn't even wait for the elevators. I would sprint down 8 flights of stairs to get out there and immediately turn off the darn pager. You have never seen me move so fast as when I could leave for the day. If you stick around, somebody might see you and make you work!

I hated the down time as a med student. It seems like a lot of the time you are just holding up a wall waiting for something to happen. That is something where residency is much better than med school.

HOw long is your avg work week Beary?

Something is wrong with my ankle. It has been hurting for a few days and is now gigantically swollen to the point I can't get my shoes on. I am not aware of hurting it at all. 😕

It's prob from all those stairs you have been running down.

Hasn't been bad yet. (We have to keep track of our hours for the 80 hour rules). I am on a really easy rotation this month so I have been doing 55-60 hrs in house so far. But I work A LOT at home, which doesn't count in the hour rules. Next month I am on surg path and expect to be doing close to 80 in house. 🙁 Autopsy is another really demanding rotation timewise.

  Awesome. 👍

I don't do quite the running routine as a resident. I more have my work to do and leave when it is done. Nobody is making me sit around, which is really nice.

beary i hope your ankle gets better soon. my ankle was like that once but that was because i sprained it when i fell down a filght of stairs

Autopsy would be awesome though. I just read that it is only 5% of a typical pathologist workload though.

thanks Nikki, how are your studies coming along? Not to worry you;ll slay the dragon in august. Take care I hope you are well

Yep, that's right. We have to get 50 to sit for boards and are supposed to get them all our first year. We have a few months first year just set aside from autopsies. Then hopefully I won't have to do anymore for the rest of my residency.

Are you interested in path? 😀

Thanks supernova!! It seems sprained, but I didn't fall down any stairs. 😉

i've been having this sharp pain above my left eye for a little while now it comes and goes from time to time, could it be a migrane? Sometimes it goes away after a cup of coffee so at one point i thought it was due to a lack of caffine cause i'll admit i am a coffee junkie, sometimes two excedrin helps so i was wondering if this is anything serious. Any ideas?

I get that too sometimes. It's stress-related for me.

I have weaker ankles from being a super jock in high school/junior high. Now, my tendons have been so stretched that I sometimes stumble for no reason and end up with a sprain. Fortunately it heals in a day or two, but I really have to watch myself on curbs and potholes and such.

Maybe you stepped funny on something like that and didn't realize it.
